Do you have DosBox downloaded? You can find a bunch of the old Dos games for download.
Plus I have emulators for Super NES and Playstation and Game Boy Advance. Lots of websites have games to download.
Legally you can download rhem (the proprietary games) for 24 hours.

You don't need sound to watch Mexican soap opera's. :)
...or kids programming for that matter. hehe

I'm going to be in a hotel room without tv (only cheesy mexican tv via antenna) or internet access for several days. Can't go out sightseeing due to safety reasons.
Oh, you're going to the Olympics.

If your computer can do flash games you can find thousands of good games of all types at many sites. I can recommend
Armorgames.com
and
Kongregate.com
I’ve been doing these two sites among others for a couple years or so now with no problems with security or prying. There are Many, many game sites on the net, just search on games and dig in. Don’t be afraid to use Flash and Java, I’ve had no problems using them for years now.
If you’re on an I-pad then you can’t use Flash though.

If you purchase from Steam or any like site, put it in off-line mode before you leave home.

This iso the one I play a lot. Sorry it would not just put the symbol up (without my name—LOL!).
It has several solitaire games, as well as other game, like Rummy and Gin Rummy.
There is a small fee to buy the game—you’ll have to do a search for it.

Buy Age of Empires. You can get it cheap on eBay and it will keep you busy for hours on end.

Oh! And another great one....Kerbal Space Program. Google it. It’s free. Hours of fun creating your own spaceship that you can use to fly to the moon. Graphics are awesome. Though it does take some decent hardware to run smooth.

If I understand your need correctly, the game will have to be pretty much self-contained because you can’t count on cheap bandwidth or any bandwidth at all at your destination. I’d suggest checking out this site: www.bigfishgames.com - their games are available in a number of genres from Mah Jong to some fairly sophisticated adventure games. The demographic for these is approximately 75% female, so you get quite a few female-POV games. Check out what’s available - most of these aren’t free but are very reasonable and do not require any special equipment (i.e. controllers) to play. Best of luck!

I recommend
Braid . It is a puzzle game that is kind of hard to describe without giving too much away but the game is a 2d game like older arcade games. Instead of shooting things, the object is to rescue a princess in a castle. In order to do that you have to manipulate time to solve puzzles. This is a good game for an older person, because of the theme. It explores themes most games don't, like regret and loss. It can be an emotionally powerful game.
P S Studies show that when players are blind to gender, women are the more violent.

Thank you so much everyone. If I stop posting and thanking it means I had to give up my borrowed internet connection but I’ll come back and investigate all of your suggestions.

Lotsa great shareware at
3D Realms' download site. Cmdr. Keen, Duke Nukem 1/2/3D, Rise of the Triad, kinda violent but not like this new stuff, it's a BIG game. I guess you have PKzip and are running an old DOS laptop, or have the DOSbox emulator...

If you like poker, go to Youda Games and download Governor of Poker. It was $20 a few years ago. You travel through Texas playing the local town players until you own all of Texas.
