It they want to sell cars they should make the car look fun-cool-beautiful-and a driver’s machine.
I wouldn’t cite Ali as Mr. Work Ethic. He could train up but sometimes he under-trained and it cost him against Leon Spinks and Jimmy Young (even though Young was robbed by a terrible decision).

I agree, not a good reference. It took me three or four seconds of wondering Ali Who? before I recalled a great boxer with brain damage. That is not what is wanted when you’re making a commercial; it distracts from the sales narrative.
The car does look beautiful, though.

Crappy-looking car, however.

This should have been on the Superbowl.
At least there would be one positive memory.
As for Ali: meh, maybe Byrant, Jordan, Aaron would be better.

If you're going to have one enduring sports image of American exceptionalism, it's right here:

I still get chills every time I see this photo.

It looks like a tarted up Chevrolet Volt although it is a 2 door while the Volt is a 4 door.

I also loved the line about going to the moon.
After six trips, it was boring.
Like visiting the south pole.
If the moon can be made exciting, we’ll go back. In the meantime, you Euroweanies, enjoy your vacations.

In FX’s Justified last season he played a homosexual Mafiosi. He gets naked and (off camera) sexually assaults a young man.
BTW ELR great looking car but grotesquely overpriced. Mechanically identical to a $35k Chevy Volt. Software has been tweeked to increase horsepower(and stress)on the engine. Plus, obviously different exterior and interior. But a BASE price of $76k. $81k fully loaded. Yikes.

I would not cite Muhammad Ali in any advert touting American values. I don't approve of his having taking a powder on military service - "I ain't got no quarrels with no VC's." But to be fair, as my late MIL pointed out, he served his time in prison for that - can't say the same about lots of others who were given the same choice.
It is his embrace of Islam that concerns me more. He began all of his interviews with an accolade to "Hon. Elijah Muhammad" and was a strong advocate of the Black Muslims.
After his having lived off the fat of the land for decades, he never condemned the 9/11 attacks or any other of the manifold Muslim atrocities of the last several decades.
So I guess in the final analysis, this commercial typifies what is the custom in today's America - adopt the buzzword or current argot and forget the basic tenets of Western Civilization, born, nourished, and protected through several millennia against the attacks of Persian satraps, Mongol Khans, Muslim Caliphs, jack-booted Storm Troopers and Soviet commissars.
The ancient enemy is still on the attack, and our society is committing collective suicide with our preoccupation with supposed "rights" of every perverted class that can thrust itself forward in the Tweeter and Facebook age.
I'm proud to stand in the shadow of my ancestors who came to this Nation in the steerage of coffin ships from Ireland in the aftermath of An Gorta Mor, who made their way into this nation serving as laborers, maids and servants, and helped build the great Nation under whose aegis we enjoy our precious Freedoms.
End of rant.

O stranger, tell the Lacedaemonians that we lie here, obedient to their command.
Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)
