Shula almost inherited Steve Spurrier, which might have changed NFL history a little bit.

As I recall, Shula was instrumental in bringing player personnel director Bobby Beathard to Miami in 1972.

Beathard had some truly amazing Drafts over his career.

Beathard was OK, but Shula came into a great organization that was willing to do what it took to win. In addition to Griese and Csonka, the Dolphins had Larry Little, Nick Buoniconti, and Paul Warfield. That’s five future hall of famers he had to work with.

Yes, Spurrier would have done a lot better in Miami than San Francisco.
