1.Be Weather-wise Always check local weather conditions before departure- TV and radio forecasts can be a good source of information. If you notice darkening clouds, volatile and rough changing winds, or sudden drops in temperature, play it safe by getting off the water.

2.Follow a Pre-Departure Checklist Proper boating safety means being prepared for any possibility on the water. From compliance with fire safety regulations to tips for fueling up, following a pre-departure checklist is the best way to make sure no boating safety rules or precautions have been forgotten.

3.Use Common Sense One of the most important parts of boating safety is to use your common sense. This means operating at a safe speed at all times, especially in crowded areas. Be alert at all times, and steer clear of large vessels and watercraft that can be restricted in their ability to stop or turn. Also be respectful of buoys and other navigational aids, all of which have been placed there for one reason only- to ensure your own boating safety.

“lousy boaters or just plain unlucky”
I assume you are referring to the loss of all the reloading equipment and ordnance lost overboard.

Heavy seas make it easier to spot the rocks when you’re coming into a harbour you’re unfamiliar with.

Many FReepers are lousy boaters. They always get into accidents that end up with them losing their firearms to the bottom of the lake.

"Do not load a complete collection of firearms into your boat for transport. We continue to receive reports of boats weighed down like this capsizing."

There are a lot of boating accidents from clumsy former firearms owners. If there’s one thing that’s true is firearms on a boat causes boats to temporarily capsize. It’s been proven over and over again.

Check the sea ice conditions before heading to the southern hemisphere to study global warming.

LOL! Remember that "Global warming" researcher, a highly educated college professor, who went to the Antarctic in "Summer" and froze to death a couple of years ago. He apparently did not realize that June is not summer in the southern hemisphere.
