In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
hear it pronounced
1. having one's identity concealed, as under an assumed name, especially to avoid notice or formal attentions.
2. with the real identity concealed: to travel incognito.
noun, plural incognitos for 3, 5.
3. a person who is incognito.
4. the state of being incognito.
5. the disguise or character assumed by an incognito.
163040; < Italian < Latin incognitus unknown, equivalent to in- in-3 + cognitus, past participle of cognōscere to get to know; see cognition, know
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
My dog bit me on the leg today.
My cat clawed my eyes.
Ma’s been thrown out of the social circle,
And dad has to hide.
I went to church incognito.
When everybody rose, the Reverend Smith,
He recognized me,
And punched me in the nose.
It need not even be said (but I will for the record). We have a prez about whom nothing is known. He is the invisible man with no origin, no context and no documentation. His passions, parentage, citizenship, education, voting record, everything about him is unknown. We only know he seeks our destruction as a nation and as a people. What manner of electorate selects Mr. Incognito as their leader?
What manner of electorate selects Mr. Incognito as their leader?
Low-information voters, people suffering from White Guilt even though slavery ended six generations ago, "educators" who benefit from pro-union policies, and people, including dead people, who voted numerous times.
By the way, I echo the sentiment in your tagline. Sultan Knish is a must read.
So... what would it be if you were highly recognizable?
The monstrous Noodleman thinks that she is traveling incognito in her attacks on Orthodox Ukraine and Russia, but she is very wrong!!!!
Stop the Nazi/Uniate takeover of Ukraine!!!! Phooey to obama, Noodleman, Samantha World Power, the clintons, and all neocons and liberal interventionists!!!!
OUTcognito must refer to those who are admittedly playing for the other team, i.e., Jason Collins, Michael Sam.
(Assume Jerry Seinfeld Voice:) Not that there's anything wrong with it.
The next time anyone in the Obama Administration does anything correctly on foreign policy will be the first time.
Leave it to the Soother to go ask Alice.
I thought it meant “addle-brained football player”.
A picture is worth a thousand words.
I thought it meant addle-brained football player.
If the cleats fit...
Very nice pic!
Is that a screen shot from Sarah Palin’s new TV show?
I’d hit that. (Very carefully.)
SICK of this weather! snowing again, snowed yesterday. enough to delay the pub schools but really just a nuisance at this point. took me two hours to get in to my ofc.
It just started snowing here as well. Not supposed to get much, but the roads are already slippery. The racquetball club is 10 miles away and I’m starting to feel like phoning it in today.
started here around 5:30 or so, and yes, the roads are not great. after your last spinning experience, i think skyping a raquetball game with your friends might be advisable ; )
How many people have attempted to get FROM Miami TO Cuba?
xsteen and her affianced sent out their “save the date” cards this past weekend. xsbaby designed them with photoshop to resemble a ticket to a hockey game. It has a photo of the two of them wearing their jerseys [photo was part of the engagment photo shoot up in philly in Nov.] xsteen wearing the C on her ovechkin winter classic jersey and xs fiance with an A, can’t recall whose Flyers jersey he has. The space for the ticket section# row and seat has 09 06 14 [wedding date] and in the body below the pic it says Puck drops at 10 am, Washington, DC, September 6, 2014. It has a barcode at the bottom and above the pic is an outline of the DC skyline and below the pic is an outline of the philly skyline. On the back are three pucks with tape one has their names, the other has the date. It is very cool.
Sounds awesome. Very creative.
what sort of uninformed/misguided nut can go to cuba and praise it? other than someone that is a leftwinger who buys into the socialist paradise. Glad you exposed her to some truth. [and i don’t mean nekkid pix of our truthy either!]
Well, she is from Toronto and is a lefty, but I repeat myself.
do we still have a ban on direct flights to Cuba? i know we did, but in all likelihood Obams removed that. It used to be notable in Canada to see billboards etc advertising flights to Cuba.
ok, i need to ask this. Is Bruce Jenner really becoming a woman? or is this a fake story on the cover of the tabloids in the groc store? i don’t know where else to go for the...truth... ; )
I have no idea, other than what I can Google:
Rubio is a powerful speaker. Impressive.
Mrs.Truth was headed out for her exercise class, but turned around and came home. It doesn’t take much for the frozen roads to be dangerous.
When Truth’sBabyGirl was a college sophomore, she was driving home for Christmas in a mild snowstorm, in a new PT Cruiser (high center of gravity deathmobile) when she hit a patch of ice that sent the car into the guardrail on Route 80. The car ended up resting on the passenger-side doors and she had to have a police officer free her. She was bruised and upset but basically unhurt. The car was totaled. There were several other cars in similar stages of discombobulation, and she said she saw one person on a gurney completely covered up—probably a fatality.
Bottom line—I don’t take snow lightly, even just an inch or so, particularly when the roads are frozen.
oh that is just horrifying to even contemplate! thank GOD she was ok.
She had called me from the road, worried about the car and very shaken up. She said that the car was still running. I told her to get the cop to turn it off, which he did. He dropped her off at a nearby Red Roof Inn, where she spent the night. He called twice and dropped by once to “check on her.” The fact that she was 19 and really cute probably didn’t even enter his mind. :)
creeper cop!!! LOL!
I just emailed my racquetball buddies to tell them that I wasn’t going to show up. I had barely hit SEND when the sun came out. Roads are still crappy, though. I live in a town that is about 1000 feet up. When it rains all around us, it snows here.
Speaking of cops, former Pittsburgh chief sentenced to 18 months for diverting public funds and forgetting to file any income taxes for 4 years.
These local cops cheated on their re-certification tests.
I have never sent, nor have I received, save the date cards for 5 weddings. I guess we’re not so important, nor are our friends, that we’d possibly have a conflict.
fodder for the cop haters. i did see that about the Pgh chief of police.
it was not done back in the day when i got married 29 years ago. it is current practice though.
I’ve witnessed a lot of that abusive behavior. My late parents were married for 50 years and pretty much couldn’t stand each other for 45 of them. Divorce was more stigmatized in those days, but it would have been the wiser option. The eye-rolling, sarcasm, accusations, innuendos, and downright nastiness was always difficult to behold. I have two brothers and all three of us have been happily married for many decades. My youngest brother says that he just recalls what our parents did and does the opposite. Works well.
xsteen has seen this behavior in a few friends relationships and is horrified by it. they will likely marry, and it does not bode well for them if they are doing it from now.
One can rise above the poor template if one realizes that doing the opposite (of bad behavior) will lead to the opposite (of an unhappy marriage.) Unfortunately, many people who are imprinted with the bad vibes merely continue the tradition, with similar results.
it takes being self-aware and cognizant of one’s own behavior. i sent that article to my daughters and said that it is good advice, and that we should keep in mind, even within our family, that teasing is ok, but that that can go over the line and become demeaning or belittling. We joke around a lot and tease each other as a family, and i think that is good, but one has to be aware of the boundaries and avoid going too far.
There is definitely a line between good-natured teasing and bad-natured bullying. As I mentioned, I have two brothers. I am the oldest, and then there is a gap of three years, followed by a gap of seven years, which makes my youngest brother 10 years my junior. The little guy was quite chubby as a child, and his older brothers would tease him quite a bit. He never minded when I did it, but he would get incensed when the middle brother did. One time my dad asked him why he didn’t mind my teasing but hated when the other brother teased him. His reply: “Because he MEANS it!” Intelligent words from a four year-old.
