Dad Picks Up Daughter from Movies. Their Car Gets Rear-Ended. Then Their Evening of Terror Begins. Feb. 12, 2014 10:28am Dave Urbanski

Jay Christopher Jost Jr. had just picked up his daughter from the movies and was driving on a Raleigh, N.C. highway when, police say, he noticed a car following them.

The car rear-ended Jost’s Saab. Then kept hitting it. Again and again.

Image source: WTVD-TV Image source: WTVD-TV Police released chilling 911 audio as the terrifying situation unfolded Saturday night, Raleigh’s WTVD-TV reported:

Dispatcher: 911 “What’s the location of your emergency?”

Caller: “I’ve got a guy that’s following me, and he’s rear-ended me and now he’s following me again.”

Dispatcher: “And what is your name?”

Caller: “He hit us again! Oh my God!”

Dispatcher: “And what is your name?”

Caller: “He’s just hit us twice!”

Police said Jost’s voice was altered on the released recording to disguise it; his daughter is heard screaming in the background. The alleged attacker is Remy Blaisdell Gagon, 25, someone with whom Jost was not acquainted, police said.

Caller: (screaming) “Jesus, he just hit me again!”

Jost drove into a parking lot in front of a Whole Foods Market to wait for help, but Gagon reportedly followed them and continued striking Jost’s car.

Caller: “He’s hit me three times now, and here he comes again.”

Dispatcher: “OK and you’re like circling the Whole Foods parking lot?”

Caller: “I’m trying to figure out what his plate is. (screaming) He just hit me four times now!”

Caller: (screaming) “Look, he just broke my window, broke my car. I’m freaking out! Jesus! He’s trying to kill us! Please! My God…someone! Please!”

Police say Jost found the right moment to get his daughter out of the car so she could run inside the Whole Foods for safety while he waited outside, WFJA-FM in central North Carolina reported. Jost soon took cover inside the store as well — but the suspect reportedly ran after him.

Police arrived and arrested Gagnon. There are conflicting news reports about whether police used force.

Jost and his daughter weren’t hurt, WTVD said. Gagnon was taken to a hospital, then released, and remains in police custody at an undisclosed location, WFJA reported.

Police say he faces two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of simple assault — for kicking an EMS worker and biting a firefighter — and one count of careless and reckless driving.

Police spokesman Jim Sughrue told TheBlaze on Wednesday that Gagnon is presently receiving care at a medical facility that police cannot disclose, and will be formally charged when he’s well enough.

The public defender’s office in Wake County said Gagon has not been assigned an attorney and no court date for a preliminary hearing has been set, WFJA reported.

Carolyn Floyd, Jost’s sister, told WJFA she doesn’t know what triggered the attacks but that her brother acted bravely to save his daughter.

“I just believe that my brother is a hero,” Floyd said. “He is an absolute hero.”

Knowing what former drug addicts I know say about drugs, the demons come with them.

Literally.

Ten years ago, I had a violent, paroled convict slam into my car because (I guess) I passed his stationary car on a city street on my way to work. The guy had been paroled from a Colorado prison where he'd been in for six years for violent assaults. I later found out he had been off his medication which was supposed to control his violent temper. His family in S. Dakota lost track of him.

He stole a car in Colorado and drove 600 miles to my part of the country. After ramming my car four or five times, he rammed another car, crashed his first stolen car into a fire hydrant, stole another car, and ended up getting himself shot to death by several sheriff's deputies after crashing/rolling his second stolen car in a corn field following a high speed chase.

He emerged from his crashed car bloody and waving a knife. The deputies asked him to put the knife down about thirty times which was recorded on one of the sheriff's radios. After refusing to drop the knife he lunged at the deputies who then filled him with enough lead for ten people. Remember folks, there's some nutty people driving around out there.

the hero status and the purple heart ain’t what they used to be sorry to say..
= = = = = = = = = = = =
I know and the real sad part is that there are a lot of people who wouldn’t understand what I was implying, so there is no sense even answering the ‘dissidents’.

I guess in today’s world one is a ‘hero’ by getting married, having a family (in THAT order), getting up every day, going to work and bringing a pay check home AND make it through the day without threatening to sue someone OR get arrested.

We used to call that being a man and doing what needed to be done.

“There are conflicting news reports about whether police used force.”

Who gives a R!$!@#?

“of careless and reckless driving.”

Understatement of the year.

Forget the gun. I would turn MY OWN car on the assailant. Turn the tables, man.

And BTW, he is no real hero.

He was. With his own car.

Although admittedly having a full-size Town Car would’ve been better.

“This is why I carry. You never know when the criminals and crazies will come out of hiding.”

Yeah, I car-carry-loaded. No CCW needed for that in Colorado. Haven’t yet felt the need to go through the hassle for that.

“I’m not sure how you shoot someone who is rear ending your car while you are driving unless you’re Steve Martin in L.A. Story. The guy did the best he could and he and his kid survived”

Indeed. And furthermore, you also don’t know if the crazy SOB chasing you is also armed, so even if the victim was armed, fleeing is really the best strategy for survival.

Gun play is sort of a a last resort in my book, e.g., the crazy guy manages to run my car off the road and then keeps coming, either with his car or on foot, or chases me when I get out of the car trying to seek safety. THEN it’s REALLY handy to be armed and time to end the chase.
