What’s their real problem with these people?

I think libs just don’t want anyone to have any fun any time any where.

I’m not that fond of fun myself, but I don’t begrudge it to others.

Santa Cruz is full of flat out crazies they ought to think about getting off the streets and into institutions - for their own good as well as the public’s - long before they start hassling street performers.

Santa Cruz BEFORE the university was built used to be a wonderful sleepy retirement town with good, fresh seafood.

After the university was built the dope heads, the counter culture life stylers, the general nut jobs, the commies, and anyone else who didn’t like Berkeley moved in. Not a great place any more

Legacy is not too strong of a word. Longtime residents of Santa Cruz may remember Tom Scribner. His derby hat and musical saw were fixtures on Pacific Avenue throughout the 1970s until his death in 1982. In 1978, a statue of the man was erected in front of Bookshop Santa Cruz.

...and now it would be illegal for a street musician to play within 15 feet of the statue..
