The preference of that demographic to be “independent” and yet typically vote for the party that promotes dependency to government is the height of contradiction. Then again, they probably use the catch phrases “like literally,” “and I was like omigod” and “amazing” to describe the vision of their president-god.

Pick a photo, any photo of his supporters. Men, women, black, white... they all have that look. That glassy, dead-behind-the-eyes adoring gaze. Like they’re all looped on soma.
Maybe it is the zombie apocalypse. These people certainly look the part.
