I have to ask. Are these with out a doubt man made megaliths? Could they not be natural stone formations?
My feeling, too, is that these are natural formations. They don’t “look like” anything and they seem to be granite, a very hard rock to shape. Some natural formations have surprisingly square forms because they break/erode along natural cracks which in some cases tend to be very straight lines. The “Giant’s Causeway” in Great Britain (I think it is) is a wonderful example of something that looks manmade, but is not.

Nice picture of natural blocks. The geological formations in the world are fantastic
Here are a couple from England:

Columnar basalt
Saw my first examples on a road trip from Seattle to Lewiston ID. As you approach from the West, the highway descends from the Columbia Plateau (created by 53K square miles of basaltic lavaflowa) to cross the Snake River. During the descent, the road follows the route the river has cut down through a formation of columnar basalt: very large, regular shaped basalt columns lying next to the highway where they have fallen due to water and ice erosion. A little unnerving.
Lots of links and images on the web. At least one Seattle company considers them to be a resource: http://www.cascadestoneworks.com/index.php

Depending on the composition and how the rock cooled, the mass could exhibit crystal structure

When does nature ever do straight lines?
**
I have seen natural structures that look manmade and have straight lines. Parks in Utah come to mind, as does the upper part of the Potomac, where I have been in a canoe on several occasions.

Simply amazing. I sure would like to know how old these are and who built them.

Until I saw Fred Nerks’ graphic in #26, I was sure these were natural formations. And I’m still over 90% sure.
