Let me just say that I do not give one hoot what these elitists in Hollywierd do tonight.
Wolf didn’t have enough plot for me. There were funny bits. Getting to the Ferrari on quaaludes, etc. but it was empty as a movie, and I agree with others who have called hustle “more Scorsese than Scorsese.” I was not expecting leave it to beaver. But sex and drugs need to fit themselves into a plot for me to like a show.
Jared was amazing; I think he’s got it, too.
Anyone besides me actually watching? Some pretty dresses.
Maybe I spend too much time with people with alzheimers but it almost seems like both Bruce Dern and Sidney Poitier are affected....
I’ll be watching when the ceremony starts. Don’t give a fig for fashion shows.

I watched Nebraska last night. You start out thinking Dern’s character was just senile. Then you realize, throughout the movie, why he turned out that way. The scene in his parents bedroom just made me so sad for the guy.
I doubt if he will win because he is not gay, black or controversial. Too bad. I’ve liked his bad guy characters for years.
Good summary.... My wife and I also have seen all the nominated movies this years... (as in most years)
I also think 12 Years a Slave will win.. But, I didn’t care for it all that much. It’s just a WEAK year for movies.
We LOVED Mr. Banks.. although, I thought it was a rip-off of ‘Finding Neverland’.

A lot of the movies played at the Toronto film festival and it is now a very strong precursor to the Oscars because it is held in September each year. Timing as usual is everything. There is essentially just one award given out at the Festival and it is voted by the festival going public. Winning the award isn’t a lock to win the Oscar but it has predicted enough over the years to be at least paid attention to. The winner last September was 12 Years a Slave.
Wow. Jared Leto just managed to give a pro-life, pro-democracy, in your face Sean Penn anti-Venezuelan comment after winning an Oscar for playing a gay man. The tepid applause for the Ukraine was quite telling.
Overtly political statements always elicit nervous titters at best.
