This is not an unusual request. The obstetrician delivers the baby, once it pees (im not kidding) there is a transfer of responsibility from the OB to the pediatrician for affirming health. It’s an institutional standard procedure for which mitigation of risk and responsibility is paramount. Lots of opportunities to be sued if this hand-off is not made correctly. They should have a ped on-call so you might inquire about that.

I can see the liability aspect of it. It’s just that we went through this before without the pediatrician requirement. Maybe I’m just forgetting.
