And still no response and no press conference and no pictures of the “weapon” from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.

Can you say "whitewash?"

This broad makes Barney Fife look like James Bond. These poor grieving parents need to sue every town that employed her.

The woman needs to be criminally prosecuted for manslaughter at least. Of course it will never happen. After all cops get a free pass for killing peasants. It's why some of them join.

Unbelievable

Unfortunately all too believable. WHERE ARE THE COP SUCKERS? Let's hear them defend this one. The most important thing is (trumpet fanfare) DID SHE GET TO GO HOME TO HER FAMILY THAT NIGHT?

Does anybody know the name of the other officer with her — supposedly a male — who has also been put on leave.

After he was shot and lay bleeding to death this other officer was supposedly heard to say “put your gun away — it’s only a remote”.

Meanwhile Georgia’s finest at the GBI are searching everywhere from swamp to swill looking for that non-existent gun.

It sounds like she’s too fearful to be a police officer. You can’t walk around wired all the time and do the job properly. So the $60,000 question is will she get fired from her current position?

Gatny's photo may never have made it to the website. The Wayback Machine shows she had no photo on August 23, 2013.

A TV reporter covering the story said that he viewed 'gun-like' Wii controllers on the floor in front of the television set.

Who is this TV reporter and why would this TV reporter be allowed to traipse through a crime scene???

And why would this wii gun not have been bagged as evidence immediately???

The word "euharlee" has now become synonymous with "barney fife".

One commenter writes:

The Euharlee police dept went to serve a violation of probation warrant for a misdemeanor.

I have gone over and over this story with the two siblings of Christopher and there was not BB gun pulled on the officer.

Christopher had gotten up to put in a movie and had the wii remote in his hand so that he could start the movie.

There was a knock on the door and Christopher said who is it. No one answered him so he opened the door with the wii remote still in his hand.

The female officer already had her gun drew and saw the remote, assumed it was a weapon and shot my nephew in the chest. She never said put down your weapon she just shot.

The male officer told the female officer to put her gun away because it was only a remote control. She didn’t.

Christophers little sister started towards Christopher because he had already fell to the floor so this female officer pointed her gun at my niece who by the way is 13 Years old and told her to shut up and stay where she was.

“My name is Nancy Beth Gatny, Beth Gatny to those who know and love me, Officer Gatny to those who don’t and I used to be Beth Daniel of Lebanon, Mo.

I believe they think I am more than a little odd. I can try to pep talk myself into believing that I need to focus but the little weirdo that lives inside me, she is off her meds, dancing through the trees and singing off key at the top of her voice… yep going to be a great day, I can feel it!!!"

I posted the statement about the TV reporter immediately after the shooting. I read multiple articles and don't remember what local news channel carried that story. I certainly don't know why the reporter had access to the inside of the home after the shooting, or whether he could see them from the door.

And why would this wii gun not have been bagged as evidence immediately???

It may have been bagged as evidence immediately. I've never seen an article stated what was done with the controller the young man was holding. I only know that a reporter claimed to have seen gun-shaped controllers on the floor in front of the TV.

I'll spend a few minutes looking for that link, but I've cleared my browser history since the original story.

I wish you had asked me that question when I posted it on 2/21. It was from a local news station webpage and it would have still been in my browser history.

I didn't create the statement about the TV reporter out of whole cloth.

I've just skimmed fifteen pages of Google results and only found a couple of local television news reports, none of which were the one I referred to. By now, the base story about a Wii controller appears to be on every blog around, but only the TV website story mentioned what its reporter claimed to have seen.

So we finally get to see this wii remote and it turns out to be a standard white remote that looks nothing like a gun and the only other thing in the trailer was a blue-grey orange-tipped toy — none remotely looking like weapons.

In her statement she claims that he pulled the trigger on the weapon that he was holding. So then what happened to the bullet and the report from that trigger pull. And since there was none then she and her partner have just a deeper hole for themselves.

Is her partner corroborating or disputing her statements.

I can’t wait for the GBI whitewash on this one —

According to the Euharlee Police Chief, Gatny has been with the department for more than nine months.

Gatny worked at the Acworth Police Department for 10 years prior to that and personnel records indicate that she was written up and suspended a number of times for various infractions.

In a timeline, her supervisors say she “refused to follow orders” on everything from filing paperwork to carrying her walkie talkie.

Other details:

Gatny was involved in four car accidents in two years.

In 2007, she reportedly “left her duty belt, along with her weapon..with a civilian employee” while she had her picture taken with someone.

In 2008, while confronting three suspects, she fired her service weapon. An internal investigation found the suspect was trying to remove his backpack. She was convinced he was going for a gun, but a fellow officer said he never thought the suspect was armed.

Internal Affairs concluded she should not be punished because the initial call for service said the suspects could have been armed.

So then Euharlee hires this loose cannon, gives her a weapon and a warrant and sends her out to serve it???

I smell premeditation here on her part and the part of those who sent her there.

Not quite. The report says about the attorney "he also bagged these two toy guns he found on the floor." Two, not one.

I'll still stand by the statement a news reporter made, and that I reported on 2/12: "A TV reporter covering the story said that he viewed 'gun-like' Wii controllers on the floor in front of the television set." Those two orange-tipped toy guns could well be what the reporter called "gun-like Wii controllers on the floor."

Beth Gatny lied. She also lied when she said she heard someone behind the door chambering a round.

If the Wii remote the attorney bagged is the one Christopher Roupe was holding as he opened the door, then the GBI should have bagged it immediately.

I don't know what her partner is saying.
