I have been hearing a commercial featuring Mia Farrow, Laurence Fishburne and others. The ad takes us to Unicef without any information. It's a donate site.
Unicef makes it worse with some new child treaties the UN enacted under Unicef’s recommendation.
I hear the commercial every day. Simple multiple 24K by 365 is 8,760,000.
Send away for a packet of UNICEF literature before you give. I haven’t done it for years, but when I did, I got the feeling that UNICEF is somewhere left of Lenin. I won’t give to UNICEF nor would I let my kids collect for them. Get a sampling of their pamphlets, read them, and then decide for yourself.
Don’t plan to give. I just wonder about their figures and how they can put the ad out.

Nigeria; Niger, Kenya; Sudan; Iraq; Iran; Afghanistan - Taliban; Indonesia (spotty attacks); Thailand; Israel; Lebanon; Syria, (Philippines - Moro Liberation Front and Sayyef) etc.
Other child-killing zones - Uganda, Ruwanda, Congo, Central African Republic (previously Liberia, Sierra Leone, Chad, Mali, Kenya, perhaps South Africa (You don’t hear much about both crime and political attacks do you?)

No. Korea; Red China; Philippines (NPA); Venezuela; Colombia; Russia (in Russia proper, Chechnya, etc), Zimbabwe.
Start adding up the figures and you will see that hunger and disease have company.
And the children suffer the most.

24,000 kids sounds about right, especially when you factor in child mortality in Third World countries, specifically due to infections.
Until about 1800, the leading causes of human death did not vary:
(1) Infectious disease
(2) Diseases related to malnutrition and hypothermia
(3) Traumatic injury, including warfare and murder.
Given that the last stat I read, China averages 50,000 abortions a day. Obviously UNICEF isn’t counting them as children
Bad if they starve, but ok to these two if they are killed outright. (For Rio Linda...I’m speaking of abortion). There is NO credibility here.

How do they define “children”? Under 18?
My guess is they’re using that word to pull at your heartstrings - make you think of babies and toddlers rather than, let’s say a teenage gang member?
