It’s possible but it would be pure speculation without access to the radar log.

Interesting question!
I keep wondering why a terrorist (if that’s what it was) would choose this route, or city of origin or destination? I thought maybe KL is know for lax security, for instance - but your question raises other possibilities.

Seems possible.Kuala Lumpur has one of the tallest skyscrapers in the world...a pretty juicy target. Not as juicy as New York,London or Tokyo but perhaps an easier one.

When I flew into KL, I found the airport fascinating. The ENTRY experience was glorious and beautiful. Well-though out.
The exit experience was somewhere between LaGuardia and Mumbai.
they paid a lot more attention to greeting you well, than sending you off well.

Not a bad theory. Some have asked — if it was a terrorist attack then why hasn’t anyone claimed credit? Credit for what? This could have been an attack that failed that they wish to carry out at a later date.
Of course everything is speculation right now.

It sure wasn’t passengers on their cell phones, as in the vicinity of Vietnam there would have been service available.
I’d still guess explosive decompression over Vietnam’s central highlands. It could readily have come down out there without anyone seeing it. It’ll be found, but it’ll take awhile.

Considering the Islamist hellraising in Thailand at present, I would think Bangkok might be a target.

A threat had actually been made against Beijing the week before (after the train attack). It was relayed by French intelligence to Singapore, because the Chinese refused to listen to it. Maybe they should rethink that attitude.
That said, if it’s true that the plane turned around, I would suspect that some significant site in Kuala Lumpur may have been the target...

Why not just make up something with no evidence?
To: rickmichaels
No.
The plane took off at 12:21am and flew 2 hours when it disappeared.
If it indeed was headed back it would have arrived at the towers before 5am.
What would be accomplished flying into empty buildings?

One report did mention 100 miles north of Ho Chi Mien City of a plane or meteor going down that night. Witnesses mentioned a fireball seen similar to a meteor.

Ive been thinking this too..long haul flight that goes dark 30min after takeoff ...very 911...claims of one garble contact and plane may of turned back...we could have a flight 93 event ...fight over control of plane and went straight in to the sea before reaching target...because it does look like terrorism but no ones claiming it..you don't claim a failed mission because you tip your hand... was that day a special day for Islam?

Well, that’s the only speculation so far that has made sense to me. Some brave souls prevented this terrorist act, just like Flight 93.
