Don’t think he was doing acid. He just noticed odd things about the moons around other planets in our solar system and it went from there.

Entropy, the conservation of energy plus the more mundane subduction zones which can be proven in structural geology all are ignored by this guy. The plate tectonics model works without creating matter out of whole cloth. If the ocean floors weren’t much younger than the continents plate tectonics would be in trouble. As it is, each of the subduction zones are matched by ocean floor spread and/or rifts. There are a lot of things yet to be explained but this isn’t one of them.
