Ninth Circuit eliminates CCW reason for "Need"

A few days ago I called Mike Boudreau’s campaign manager and asked him a few questions about Mike. For those that don’t know, Mike Boudreaux is the current Undersheriff in Tulare County and is running for and supported by our current and retiring Sheriff Wittman.

I asked what his political party was and I was told Mike is a Republican but the office he’s running for is non-partisan. Next I asked his feelings about a person’s right to keep and bear arms and was told he believes in the Second Amendment.

Next, I asked how he felt about California’s concealed carry. I was told “…if there’s a need.”.

I was told Mike as Undersheriff, has approved over 400 CCW permits.

As a check, I asked one of my sons who was recently approved for his CCW permit, who approved it. He told me Mike Boudreaux did.

Here is a portion of an email sent to Tom Gresham for whom I was a program archivist for 5 years.

Tom is host of Gun Talk.

Dave,

With the recent decision by the Ninth Circuit, sheriff's will not be able to require that anyone show a "need" to get a permit.

www.calguns.net has updated info.

Best,

Tom

One of my coworkers asked his view on CCW's and he responded, "if there's a need". The coworker used the reason "for self-defense" and was denied. My reason was approved. I said I have to deal with gang members and inmates doing community service at my work and I'm worried about after work retaliation. He is pro-gun. Tiffany's best friend is dating a Deputy in the department and he said Mike is a good guy and will most likely get the position. He's getting my vote. > Love, > Chad

IN CT when I went to get my state permit the State Trooper behind the desk asked me to state why I wanted a permit - I had left that section blank on the card.

I replied, "Self defense."

He looked up at me and said, "Target practice, right?"

I emphatically said, "Yes! That's right!"

It's clear the state (not necessarily the troopers) do NOT want people thinking about self defense.

I had heard where people went in there claiming self defense to justify their carry permit and were denied because of it. Just hearsay.

It must be a joy and delight to be permitted to live in Connecticut.

Similar conversation in Arizona.

“Officer, I have a concealed pistol.”

“What kind?”

“S&W .357 magnum.”

“That’s a nice pistol. Something I can do for you?”

“Nope.”

“Well, have a good day.”

I moved from Calistan to the Sun City, Az two years back. California look great in my rear view mirror. I felt like the tyrannical boot had been lifted from my throat. Freedom like I had when America was in the early 60’s.

I couldn't believe you didn't need any CCW to carry concealed there. No BS from anyone.

My wife began to miss our kids and grand children and flat out told me if I didn't go back with her, I'd be living alone because she was moving back.

I've been married a long time to her and she was my high school sweetheart. In face in April we celebrated 41 years together.

I miss Arizona, but not as much as I'd miss my wife and family, so the choice was easy. I've been in Tulare county now for over 20 years.

Have a nice day.
