NBC Today Show Co-Host Guthrie Marries a Clinton-Gore Operative

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney is married to ABC News Washington correspondent Claire Shipman and now there’s another cozy media-Democratic political world power couple with the marriage, in Arizona over the weekend, of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie to Clinton-Gore political operative Michael Feldman, founder of a Democratic PR/lobbying firm.
Guthrie was a White House correspondent for NBC News, covering President Obama, and co-host of MSNBC’s Daily Rundown, until heading north to New York City in 2011 to take a role on the Today show where she’s been co-hosting with Matt Lauer since mid-2012.

Introducing a gushing interview with HBO Girls star Lena Dunham aired on Friday’s NBC Today, co-host Savannah Guthrie eagerly proclaimed: “You know, to call her the voice of her generation might actually be underselling her abilities. At just 27 years old, she isn’t just starring in the hit HBO show Girls, she created it, writes it, produces it, and she also directs it. And now she can add something else to that impressive resume, she’ll be the host of Saturday Night Live this weekend.” [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump]
In 2013, Dunham compared Republicans to Nazis while discussing a new character in the show’s second season. In 2012, Dunham did an ad for President Obama’s re-election campaign in which she compared voting for him to someone losing their virginity.
Guthrie managed to skip those controversial aspects of Dunham’s “impressive resume,” but did find time to beg to join the Girls cast: “I feel like I should confess to you that I’ve kind of imagined being, you know, the fifth girl. And you’re probably thinking, ‘You seem really boring and straightforward, I don’t really see a role for you in the show.’ I took the liberty of creating some story boards to just pitch my character.”
The 42-year-old Guthrie said she was happy to go public with her pregnancy, because “I can’t suck in this gut anymore.”

In a live interview with former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney on Friday’s NBC Today, co-host Savannah Guthrie grilled him on his interactions with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie: “...you see the bridge scandal and other allegations have come forward. And they all seem to have a theme, which is that he uses, allegedly, hardball, sometimes bullying tactics against people who cross him. Have you never experienced that side of him?”
After asking Romney if he would consider another presidential run – to which he said no – Guthrie asked: “You think Hillary Clinton is beatable if she’s their [the Democrats’] nominee?” Romney predicted: “I’m sure she is. Because I think people recognize the country’s just not doing what it needs to do.”

NBC Sympathizes: ‘Humble President’ Was ‘Strikingly Contrite’ About ObamaCare Failures

On Friday, NBC’s Today tried to cast President Obama’s Thursday press conference about the ObamaCare disaster in the most sympathetic light possible, with co-host Savannah leading off the show by proclaiming: “The humble president....President Obama does damage control on the botched health care rollout with his legacy hanging in the balance.” [Listen to the audio]
Introducing the segment moments later, Guthrie claimed the President was “falling on the sword over this health care rollout disaster.” In the report that followed, White House correspondent Peter Alexander emphasized Obama’s supposedly humility: “The President the first to admit that he has a lot of work ahead of him to regain the confidence of the American people....[he] was strikingly contrite.”
