A former Battery Creek High School psychologist accused of sexual battery of a student will spend 45 days in jail because she violated her bond terms when she traveled to Savannah last month to see the same teenager, according to the 14th Circuit Solicitor's Office.
Megan Snipes, 29, appeared Thursday before Judge D. Craig Brown, who found her in contempt of court, deputy solicitor Sean Thornton said. When Snipes is released from the Beaufort County Detention Center in May, she will also wear an electronic-monitoring ankle bracelet, Thornton said.
Her attorney, Jim Brown, said he was pleased the judge did not revoke Snipes' bond.
"When you can't get out of jail because there's no bail to post, it becomes a coercive situation (to plead guilty)," Brown said.
Snipes, arrested in December, is accused of engaging in a sexual act with a 16-year-old male student she was seeing professionally as the school psychologist. As a condition of her release on a personal recognizance bond, Snipes was ordered not to see the juvenile, according to the Solicitor's Office.
However, she drove to Savannah in February to give the teenager and his cousin a ride, according to a report she filed Feb. 22 with the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department. During the Feb. 20 incident, Snipes sat in the back seat of her car with the former student and, after noticing he had a a gun, felt she could not refuse to have sex with him, the report said.
The teen and his cousin also claimed to have filmed the encounter, and blackmailed Snipes for cigarettes and more than $200, she told officers.
Savannah-Chatham police spokesman Julian Miller said no laws were broken in that incident and Snipes will not be charged with filing a false report. He declined to comment further on the incident.
Snipes' charge of sexual battery is pending, according to court records.

Yeah, no laws were broken. Possession of a firearm in coercing sex is okay. Blackmailing and armed robbery are fine, too.
