In your opinion, what is the best comic strip to ever appear in newspapers (like Peanuts or whatever) and what is your most hated comic strip?

LOL -- that is a good one.

My favorite cartoonist is Jerry Van Amerongen and his The Neighborhood series.

Best political cartoonist is of course the great Michael Ramirez. I am so glad he's on our side.

Agree with Dick Tracy. I can't stand "serial" comics". But when I read the Dick Tracy compilations, wowza. Those stories just pop and crackle with excitement.

Chester Gould was a genius.

He would get Tracy into some impossible jam, then figure out how to extricate him.

He claims to never have an ending "in mind", but lets the stories unfold.

My fav Far Side is the king arguing with the moat contractor. The contractor is pointing at the construction blueprint. He was building the most inside the walls of the castle.

The grandfather in Boondocks was ok.

Hmmm, I do sem to recall one strip where he tells the hateful little POS and his brother:
"Why don't you two little negros just go do a drive-by on each other and get it over with?"
Leaving them speechless.

Thanks for the mention, I have looked for this a few times over the years but I can’t find anything, I don’t recall it the way you do, but I will widen my search, for one thing, I’m thinking 1967.

Try to remember to ping me if you guys ever come across it.

Best Dilbert. Everything else is pale in comparison.

Agreed. I used to work for a guy who actually looked and thought like Dilbert's boss.

A lot of those old comics are masterpieces of illustration, just gorgeous pieces of work. It’s a real shame there really isn’t any comparison today, or at least I haven’t seen it. Watterson is a great artist and had his own unique thing going, but even then it isn’t in the realm of some of those guys as far as sheer technical brilliance at illustration. You have to go to actual comic books to find any sort of comparison, and even they are very far and few between, or at least that’s what I have found.

Prince Valiant-— except when they get in the realm of dragons and outer worldly things. Since I was a kid, it was his legs that attracted me.

For fun - Zits, and Pickles.
