There is some encouraging news.

When I lived in Iowa City in the 1990’s, UIHC ranked in the top 5 USA hospitals for Head and Neck Surgery (Otolaryngology).

UIHC was also highly ranked for post surgical radiation and chemotherapy for cancer patients.

When I saw the words “cancer” and “14 years old,” I immediately assumed this kid had a sarcoma.

Most of the time, a sarcoma in a youngster means an arm or a leg has to be amputated, or worse, a pelvic tumor, which is often fatal in the long term.

A thyroid tumor is usually spotted early, and most people have an excellent prognosis after treatment.

Very true. He will have to take medication everyday for the rest of his life though.
