NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) Two LAPD officers were recovering from injuries after a reportedly violent standoff in North Hollywood, police said Monday.
Police responded to a report of a man disturbing patrons at the Laemmle Noho 7 movie theater at 5240 Lankershim Blvd. at about 9:40 p.m. Sunday , according to Los Angeles police Lt. Albert Gavin.
KNX 1070′s Ed Mertz reports police say upon officers arrival on the scene, they found a man believed to be a transient lying down in the middle of Lankershim, forcing oncoming vehicles to swerve to avoid hitting him.
When they attempted to take the man described only as being in his late 30s into custody, police say the suspect resisted arrest and struggled with officers, who used a stun gun multiple times in an effort to subdue him, according to LAPD Sgt. Mike Kammert.
In the process, [an officer] ended up in the struggle tasing not only the suspect, which had zero effect on him, but also tasing his partner, Kammert said.
During the struggle, the suspect bit one officer, while another officer was hit with the taser gun during the struggle, police said. Both officers were treated for the injuries and subsequently released.
As many as eight LAPD officers were needed to eventually subdue the suspect, who stopped breathing following use of the stun gun and required CPR to be resuscitated, police said.
The incident was being investigated as a categorical use-of-force incident, police said.
Reminds of the San Jose case in 1989 when a homeless guy killed two policemen: http://www.deseretnews.com/article/31540/DEATH-ON-THE-BEAT.html?pg=all
I really am trying not to laugh but I sure wish there was video.
It’s always funny when you personally only read about and never have to deal mental cases...
i remember this... it was awful... the first officer had radio’d for back up, unarmed... hiding behind the car... so sad... it happened in front of bystanders... i think the second office was killed by “friendly fire,” after all... no?
He’s laughing cause he hates “pigs”.
They had a tough fight to overcome and subdue a guy, without simply standing off and shooting him.
That is what we call good, tough, brave, police work, the kind we used to see 50 years ago.
Funny when you shorten the name of North Hollywood to NO HO, you are saying something entirely different!!
And to say there are NO whores in N Hollywood is laughable.
I lived there many years ago. It wasn’t good then and can’t have improved.
I’m sure there are “ladies of the night” there — but no thanks.
I read the title and though for sure “NoHo” was going to be donut shop where two LEO customers were fighting over the last jelly filled.
No Ho was involved in the incident.
The angel dust super human strength?
