ROCK HILL — The Rock Hill woman accused of stabbing her girlfriend and spitting on a police officer denies attacking the woman and said instead she was trying to help.
Tiffany Jones, 31, has been charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and throwing fluids on a law enforcement officer.
But she claims that her girlfriend, Demetria Harris, went to her home intoxicated, already cut. Jones bandaged her leg, but then asked her to leave. A dispute erupted and Harris called police.
Jones said she does not remember spitting on an officer, though she admits “I was pretty irate.” She said she apologized to the police officer.
“I feel I’m innocent until proven guilty,” Jones said. “I helped her.”
Earlier this month, misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana were dismissed with the right to restore in connection with her arrest on New Year’s Eve. Police said they found her and a friend parked at the Executive Inn on North Anderson Road with liquor and pot in the car.
Jones said she did not hang out with the man, but mentored him for years. The night of her arrest, Jones said her friend visited her house. She needed a ride to pick up fireworks. She said she was “caught in the crossfire.” Jones said she's tried repairing her life after news coverage of her arrest late last year surfaced. Her new charges, she said, are a setback.
