U.S. Marine who just returned from Afghanistan identified as victim

Fremont police arrested a 23-year-old man after they say he acted in a "belligerent" manner inside a Taco Bell on Tuesday morning, fled from officers, then slammed into a utility pole, killing a motorcyclist during his attempted escape.

Bystanders identified that motorcyclist as a Marine who just returned home from Afghanistan. His name has not been made public.

The intersection of Decoto Road and Fremont Boulevard was shut down for hours as investigators combed the scene for evidence. Debris was scattered all over the road. The intersection remained closed until just after 4 p.m.

Fremont police arrested the driver, identified as Alexander Yohn of Emeryville, early Tuesday morning, and are looking into whether he was driving under the influence.

The Alameda County Coroner’s office has not released the name of the motorcyclist, but many of his friends and family put two and two together and gathered at the crash scene all day, waiting for investigators to finish so the that man’s body could be moved. They asked reporters for privacy.

Fremont Police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said Yohn was in the Taco Bell drive-thru on Decoto Road in his Mini Cooper and was acting "intoxicated" and in a "belligerent" manner about 1 a.m.

An employee called police, and when officers arrived, the man fled in his car, blowing through a red light.

“Based on the speed of the vehicle, the impact was pretty violent and that both the motorcyclist and rider flew hundreds of yards,” Bosques said.

Yohn then ran to a nearby field, just north of Fremont Bank, and was arrested.

Just about that time, two passersby flagged down a police officer to say a body was in the intersection of Decoto Road and Fremont Boulevard, with a motorcycle down on the road. Police believe Yohn killed the motorcyclist before hitting the pole.

I just thought of a fitting punishment for this slime, send him to Afghanistan in the dead soldiers place and make him the point man on every mission, that way if there is trap or IED, no loss!

Hey I'm good with that, and maybe a little napalm. But you know I'm not real concerned in the order of occurrence, just in the occurrence.
