In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
infix \IN-fiks\ noun
a derivational or inflectional affix appearing in the body of a word
Example sentences:
The Philippine language of Tagalog adds infixes such as "-um-" and "-su-" to verbs to convey different tenses and voices.
"As Mark Peters writes, [The Simpsons character Ned] Flanders is 'hyper-holy,' and his infixes sanctify a typically profane process. He is also gratingly cheerful
and diddly perfectly conveys his sunny attitude: murder and dilemma sound a lot less forbidding when infixed as murdiddlyurder and dididdlyemma
."
From Michael Adams' 2009 book Slang: The People's Poetry
Etymology:
Like prefixes and suffixes, infixes are part of the general class of affixes ("sounds or letters attached to or inserted within a word to produce a derivative word or an inflectional form"). Infixes are relatively rare in English, but you can find them in the plural forms of some words. For example, "cupful," "spoonful," and "passerby" can be pluralized as "cupsful," "spoonsful," and "passersby," using "s" as an infix. Another example is the insertion of an (often offensive) intensifier into a word, as in "fan-freakin'-tastic." Such whole-word insertions are sometimes called "infixes," though this phenomenon is more traditionally known as "tmesis."
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
What’s worse — crazy ants or creepy uncles?
As a Stars fan, just let me say “Hawks suck”
I think Ross Perot kept his crazy aunt in the attic.
hey, you’re welcome to try to take the Cup from them....
Great quote!
If it works for the knee, don’t question it...
It isn’t raining hard here-cool, foggy and cloudy and rather nice.
Creepy uncles for sure - it is illegal to kill them!
You have to check out the link from xs from What’s Up Ya Sieve because they mention the Edmonton coach and something I was just saying last time I watched them play. Uncanny that we thought the same thing. See what you think.
My little brother had to really shut his mouth while in law school at University of Texas Austin law school. He was taking an ethics course, and the professor was very, very much against Monsanto and their genetically modified corn. My brother is the one who wrote the patent being discussed, be wasn’t yet an attorney, so couldn’t actually sign the patent, but it was his baby.
He could have debated and been 100% correct, but would have failed the course.
Wow - I have a sil who is “mother earth” and violently against gmos....(apparently against conditioning or trimming her hair or wearing makeup too...but that is another story)
oh, tiger....I am so sorry to hear that. I wish you a happy, brighter future.
do we have the same SIL? LMAO is she a dem like mine?
Much ado about a little bit of water ... I doubt whether the Edmonton coach will get the “Gatorade shower” very soon, if ever.
And as far as missing the Sabres game there tonight, you might as well learn something about the actual Last Stand massacre than have to witness a repeat on the ice (with the way Buffalo has been playing lately ;)
Did you hear they are talking about the Bills coming to visit the Steelers at training camp this year? And the Steelers reciprocating next year?
Was out shopping for the bridal shower on Saturday. The bride to be is Chinese, so I got these cute little bowls from Pier1 that come with chopsticks, a knife to chop her veggies with (I swear she eats NOTHING on our table at family dinners, such a finicky appetite for American food), and a cool white silicone chopping board that looks Asian. I found a basket to place them in that has a somewhat Asian looking insert in it. We are not to wrap, but arrange on a display table for all to browse. I have the large clear bags to put over the whole thing so it all looks like a gift basket. I am getting excited to see her friends, who like her are Chinese students. They got all atwitter about having to “shower” with Americans. Guess there is nothing like bridal showers in China. Her parents are still in China and will be coming over for the wedding this summer.
I did hear about that, embedded among all the news & tributes RE the recent passing of Bills’ owner Ralph Wilson. I seem to recall the club doing something similar with Cleveland in prior years.
But doesn’t he look like #10?
LMAO!
All corn is technically a GMO. If humans went away, in less than a decade, corn would be gone. There is no natural corn.
