In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
infix \IN-fiks\ noun
a derivational or inflectional affix appearing in the body of a word
Example sentences:
The Philippine language of Tagalog adds infixes such as "-um-" and "-su-" to verbs to convey different tenses and voices.
"As Mark Peters writes, [The Simpsons character Ned] Flanders is 'hyper-holy,' and his infixes sanctify a typically profane process. He is also gratingly cheerful
and diddly perfectly conveys his sunny attitude: murder and dilemma sound a lot less forbidding when infixed as murdiddlyurder and dididdlyemma
."
From Michael Adams' 2009 book Slang: The People's Poetry
Etymology:
Like prefixes and suffixes, infixes are part of the general class of affixes ("sounds or letters attached to or inserted within a word to produce a derivative word or an inflectional form"). Infixes are relatively rare in English, but you can find them in the plural forms of some words. For example, "cupful," "spoonful," and "passerby" can be pluralized as "cupsful," "spoonsful," and "passersby," using "s" as an infix. Another example is the insertion of an (often offensive) intensifier into a word, as in "fan-freakin'-tastic." Such whole-word insertions are sometimes called "infixes," though this phenomenon is more traditionally known as "tmesis."
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
I have a dem sister like that, She was a commie from before she was even a teenager.
My dad said, “well 80% of my kids are conservatives, that’s not too bad”.
Yes she is right and we are just hateful you know..... ;^)
ACK! What is that?
Sounds like you put a lot of thought into her gift - it will be interesting to hear what her friends thought of “showering” with you all! lol
Is that right?
One of the funny things about my sil is that while she whines about oil and fracking, her husband flies to destinations for work every single week.... all over the country. I want so badly to point out that her income is dependent upon her husband being able to use fuel. lol I assume many liberals are like this....whining about big corporations while they work for them.
You’ve never seen “Tommy” from the Who?
That’s Uncle Ernie.
Don’t Google “showering Asian college students.”
No I have not -
Oh, yeah — David MacDonald ;)
That is good advice
sounds great! make sure you let me know what games you play! our shower is next weekend, for my niece.
yea we all have our crosses to bear, mik ; )
Also as predicted at the Bridgestone Arena, the Natives made quick work of the invading “Long-knives” 6-1 ;)
I heard the results on the way home from the lecture. There are 252 markers on Last Stand Hill but only 210 members of the 7th Cavalry were killed there. We heard some trivia but mostly things of which we were already aware. Custer was mostly bald at the time of the battle and had cut his remaining hair very short due to lice in the campgrounds. His body was relocated to West Point and his is the second largest monument there. They had a huge crowd attending, more than a hundred.
Can they book Malaysia 370.? ;-)
Ann Margaret, Champagne...the pillow. OMFG.
I think singing while putting on lipstick is a nifty move.
