In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

infix \IN-fiks\ noun
a derivational or inflectional affix appearing in the body of a word

Example sentences:
The Philippine language of Tagalog adds infixes such as "-um-" and "-su-" to verbs to convey different tenses and voices.

"As Mark Peters writes, [The Simpsons character Ned] Flanders is 'hyper-holy,' and his infixes sanctify a typically profane process. He is also gratingly cheerful … and diddly perfectly conveys his sunny attitude: murder and dilemma sound a lot less forbidding when infixed as murdiddlyurder and dididdlyemma…."
— From Michael Adams' 2009 book Slang: The People's Poetry

Etymology:
Like prefixes and suffixes, infixes are part of the general class of affixes ("sounds or letters attached to or inserted within a word to produce a derivative word or an inflectional form"). Infixes are relatively rare in English, but you can find them in the plural forms of some words. For example, "cupful," "spoonful," and "passerby" can be pluralized as "cupsful," "spoonsful," and "passersby," using "s" as an infix. Another example is the insertion of an (often offensive) intensifier into a word, as in "fan-freakin'-tastic." Such whole-word insertions are sometimes called "infixes," though this phenomenon is more traditionally known as "tmesis."

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Just the Senator lawyers.

Congressman Braley's pitch was basically "elect me to keep Leaky Leahy as Jusiciary Chairman or else it's Chairman Grassley as the Senate flips.

I hope Joni Ernst is his opponent. She has experience dealing with people like him. /squeal

Really?

That's as crazy as having TARP chief Neel Kashkari for governor of California. Oh wait that's happening.

Upset ;-). But allow me a moment...

So, the time has come the Tiger said, to talk of many things....

Of Ships and Shoes and Sealing wax, of Cabbages, and Kings...

So, for those of you that don’t already know, I am coming to the end of a divorce 3 years in the making. I waited to say so, but it was pointed out to me, that my recent tone and tenor had tended to the adversarial and contentious, which is not my usual demeanor, so...if recently I have been so, my apologies.

I generally try to keep confidences, so I’ve not really addressed it here.

It’s fairly clear to anyone in my TL, that the end of that road, is not an utter disaster, I am remarrying, and moving on, despite the chasm created by my immeasurable loss.

For those that have exhibited kindness along the way, without regard to what you may have heard or surmised, thanks from the bottom of my heart.

So..life goes on....I just wanted to explain my pissy attitude to anyone on the other end. That is not me.

And, as we have a long history here I’d rather let you know personally, and not leave it to idle gossip.

Pace. (Latin not a misspell)
