I think this ‘surprise’ homecomings are getting a little overdone

I would not be able to wait for a planned reunion in front of the world.

I am glad this soldier got the reception that he did. Upon my return from my second deployment, my son did not recognize me. During my third deployment, my daughter would not speak to me on the rare occassions I could call home. She also refused to eat for several days after my departure.

Each child takes a deploying parents leaving differently as well as their return. The blessing I see is that he returned.

So many people nowadays say that fathers don’t matter, that if a kid is raised by a single mom or by two moms, it’s just as good. But the numerous videos of dads coming home from the military and surprising their kids, and the kids’ joyous reactions, are just one proof of how very important dads are.
