It was a harrowing night for the Anaheim Police Department. After officers responded to an incident at an apartment complex, Bruno, a police canine, was shot.
"As the teams were searching, the dog alerted them to a suspect hiding behind or near a trash can. When the dog went up to make contact, the suspect, who was armed with a gun, stepped up and shot the dog and the officers at the same time," said Lt. Tim Schmidt.

Prayers that this dog makes it. He went above and beyond the call of duty.
APD sicced a dog on a gangbanger and are pretending to be aghast that rover got shot.
What did they expect?
Sure it wasn’t friendly fire? Killing dogs is so easy.
Not sure which way I fall on this, the Anaheim PD has been involved in some pretty shady shootings lately so not sure if they are in the right here or not. Which is really really sad. Our police forces have become more dangerous to the average citizen than the criminals in a lot of ways.
... and comes so naturally.
Okay, THAT is a hugely ironic twist on the usual turn of events.
Brave doggie ping!
Saw story on Yahoo; might still be there. Doggie has long recovery ahead, then retirement; partner will adopt and care for.
at this point, i only feel bad for the dog. dunno if they are good cops or the kind you wouldn’t mind not being on the force anymore.
they never lose their job, they back each other up to cover crap up, and theycan murder you all if they feel threatened. god help you if it’ s a female cop.
Naw, he did what he was trained to do...The dog didn't even consider there could be someone there to shoot him...All he knew was bite someone til his handler got there and he would get a treat....
Not only are these dogs trained to subdue a subject, they are the guinea pig so see what danger lies ahead...
Like the Iranians would do during the Iran-Iraq war...Send little kids into the minefield to blow up the mines to clear the way for the soldiers...
Have you not been following this story?
The shooter was a gang banger with a significant felony record and just released from prison 10 days prior.
He fired at probation officers (who were checking on someone else), fled, then tried to ambush the SWAT team, hitting the dog instead.
I would call this a very good shoot.
Dog will definitely retire. Bruno underwent surgery again yesterday to remove the rest of the bullet and is much better. He will be in the hospital a little longer.
The rescued dogs of German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County have been giving blood for his stay at the hospital.
Serious dogs like this with serious jobs do not get “treats”. That’s for pikers and namby-pambys.
As to this story, appeared here at least a week ago.
thanks for your post...you were more polite in your response than i would have been.
So glad to hear the doggie will be ok and live with his handler...The military dogs are also very devoted to their charges.
BTW..this perp will have WAY EXTRA charges brought on him becuase he shot a Police officer, albeit a cannine one.OOOrah! Usually the vetinarain will testify in court on behalf of the dog and the vets love to do that task!
Yep. If you shoot their dog, you’re treated as though you murdered a human.
If they shoot your dog, tis only a dog.
If they shoot you, well, you’re only a mundane.
So the hierarchy is
Human officer > police dog > non police officer > non police dog.
All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.
