Word For The Day, Monday, 3/31/14

;

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

rapacious; adj.

1. given to seizing for plunder or the satisfaction of greed. 2. inordinately greedy; predatory; extortionate: a rapacious disposition. 3. (of animals) subsisting by the capture of living prey; predacious. Synonyms ravenous, voracious, grasping; preying. "Fortunately for those who pay their court through such foibles, a fond mother, though, in pursuit of praise for her children, the most rapacious of human beings, is likewise the most credulous; her demands are exorbitant; but she will swallow any thing." Jane Austen.

Etymology: 1645–55; < Latin rapāci- (stem of rapāx greedy, akin to rapere to seize; see rape1 ) + -ous

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

I guess it is a cultural thing - “might” be some other kind of meat (possibly something gross) but, like you, I’m not familiar with the taste of lamb either. I just googled the name and it listed that it is usually made with lamb

i was telling my friend at work about it and she said there had been something on the food network about how it is made, and how the meat is sliced in thin strips and spiced and wrapped around a spit, wider at the top than the bottom so that the juices will flow down and flavor the meat, and it is slow roasted.

Here come da judge. The only problem with this is that Nuts notoriously think they are cured and no longer in need of meds, so then they stop taking them and then flip out.

I can’t believe she has been collecting the same enormous salary while not working for two years!

Sounds like grounds to appeal any decision she might make in the future. Unless she has documentary evidence of the ongoing taking of her medication and the efficacy it has in correcting her brain chemistry.

I felt the same way about the roasted pig. LMAO It was delish, but really, I am not a farm girl and eating the pet pig sounded revolting. I had seconds, though.

and i don’t know what sort of evidence could satisfy that standard [proving efficacy of correcting her issue].

someone on the thread said she was Jesse Jackson’s niece, which could explain why she continued to be paid for years at the exorbitant salary rate.

saw you opining on the Sup ct denial of cert thread ; ) i am not sure what those cases were about and what exactly they were appealing. Most likely it was an interlocutory appeal, and there is a strict standard to be met in order for any court to take them. You have to prove some sort of substantial harm that would result from letting the appeal run the natural course, among other things.

We’ve got one judge in Cleveland and one in Hamilton County (Cincinnatti) who have psychological problems. I mean documented problems they aren’t just wacky.

psych issues are probably not uncommon, but this woman appears to have had some giant meltdown and had to be carried out in a catatonic state at one point.

did you see the cookie table link i posted to you and others yesterday? apparently while Pittsburgh lays claim to the tradition, there is at least one school of thought that Warren, OH has some nexus as well.
