FULL TITLE: Abandoned: Heartbreaking pictures of parents leaving their children in China’s notorious 'baby hatches'

They are truly heartbreaking scenes. The moments of despair as parents cling to their children for one last time before abandoning them in China's so-called baby hatches.

A father kisses his child, her face hidden in a blanket. A mother holds her hooded baby as their shadows are cast upon the last door they will pass through together. Another collapses to the ground, reaching out to touch her son for the last time.

They are the final moments of lives torn apart, often by poverty or an inability to cope with disease or disability.

“My baby cannot take care of itself when it grows up,” one woman cries, explaining that her infant has Down’s syndrome. ‘I just want my baby to survive,” she tells the Information Times newspaper based in Guangzhou. She and an accompanying female friend leave, both in tears.

This is China. If you spend enough time in China you would find that attitudes toward the disabled are not the same as they are here. Cultures are not all the same. If you are seriously disabled and want to survive, you had better be valuable to someone as a beggar.

These people work for slave wages, most likely for a factory making Apple products.

I was in China numerous times in the late 80's and early 90's, and I can tell you, without any doubt, that these people were much worse off before companies like Apple built their production facilities there. Slaves don't earn wages, and earning an income, no matter how meager, is much preferred to starving like they did back when I was a witness to the suffering.

These pictures are heartbreaking, but it can, and does, get much worse. There are many places in Africa and India that will make this place look good.

Our 15 year old niece was abandoned in a Chinese railway station. Unfortunately, my Lib sister and her husband are making sure their daughter learns Chinese and all about (the politically correct things) the country of her birth. She is very bright and totally AMERICAN at this point. Lovely child.

Yea Amerca has a much better way, when the baby is almost born the doctor stabs it in the head, sucks out its brains and then throws it in the trash but only after he/she is paid first.

Yea that is so much better and supported by many perverts including the POTUS.

Yea so much better. We as a nation can hold our heads high, yea that will do it.

Awesome comment guy; especially coming from a guy. I have two adopted daughters and I notice that Asians are always incredulous about our having adopted children. It’s just not done in that culture. Maybe because of our Judeo-Christian thingy?? “Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not” as He took them into His lap. The Lib elite think they’re so ethically high and mighty, that they can jettison the foundations of what made us a great country, as if they’re saying “ok christians we’ll take it from here”, yeah, I bet you will, and time will show us slipping back into this very kind of cruel, pagan, behavior.

In the days of Mandarin rule there were “baby towers” outside the villages. They served the same hideous purpose.

An American couple adopts a Chinese girl baby & are blessed with a child of unusual beauty & intellect who loves them as her saviors. G-d’s purpose & will made manifest.

These people work for slave wages

The average Chinese worker prefers to work for foreign multi-nationals like Foxconn, because they offer superior wages and opportunities for advancement. Chinese companies promote mainly on the basis of connections, whereas foreign companies do so on the basis of demonstrated ability. You may think conditions at places like those that assemble Apple products is bad. The reality is that plants assembling products for the domestic (Chinese) market are Dickensian.

I agree. But let's not pretend that China is better on life issues. They have forced abortions and forced sterilization and a wholly self destructive 1 child policy that has created a massive gender imbalance.

You are correct, but our country is no shinning beacon in respect to a respect for human life with a perverted record of over 55 million murders of the most innocent and helpless.

There are laws and severe punishments for the killing of certain insects and animals and the halting of projects because of a snail.

What are the restrictions on the murder of babies by doctors who are paid to stab them in their heads and suck ut their brains, of course after they get paid - none.

Same story with my niece. I don't believe she went through this ordeal. Not sure, but an orphan, nonetheless. Awesome kid.

I do know the adoption process is long and belabored.

Yeah, I am sure you're correct in your ASS-UM-SHUN!

Foxconn is a Taiwanese company which employs 1.2 million mainland Chinese to assemble electronics for a variety of GLOBAL manufacturers. Apple is one of those companies and a large number of the employees assemble Apple products from components made/shipped from the USA and other countries.

Apple has been at the forefront of helping to improve their working conditions.

But, I believe the 2012 population figures for China says there were 1.35 billion, I am not sure what impact Apple Computer has on the problem of abandoned children. BUT, I would ASSUME that those employed at Foxconn are likely NOT the ones dumping their children!

I guess that it would be better to build everything in America, feed excessive fees and taxes to the Obumbo/Pelosi/Reid beast, and let American consumers pay 300-500% more for the products they can presently afford. That would surely make everything better, by putting more people into the unemployed roles... (/sarc)

Good luck with that business model...

Are there any Americans willing to adopt these kids and love them?

Yes. I see them frequently. But more are needed, and frankly I'd like to see our home grown kids taken care of first. But the regime(s) have made it so difficult to adopt at home that China is easier.

“But the regime(s) have made it so difficult to adopt at home that China is easier. “

Is why I asked if Americans would adopt them. Am willing to bet China would open the flood gates just to get rid of them and allow Americans to adopt due to their one child policy. Don’t mean to sound mean but that is how China is. Or at least the government.

There is an adoption agency in America just for down syndrome kids and a lot of those babies being dropped off are downs. So I know they could find homes in a New York minute.

You remind me of my old econ prof. He posed the question: “Is it more moral to feed a million starving people who will procreate ten million more starving people within ten years, or to let the original million starve?” The difference here is that I actually liked that prof.

You appear to approve of manufacturing jobs being outsourced to China. I hope you derive great happiness from your “cheap” electronics, that they keep you warm at night, and that they care for you in your old age. Good luck.
