Looks like ‘Gator’ couldn’t match the big bucks of TaxSlayer.com.

Dumb move by that company ditching the Gator Bowl brand. That was always one of the more high profile second tier bowls. Now they are associated with the Nut bowl and all the other non historical made for tv bowl games.

The Regime isn’t going to like the term “Taxslayer” much...look for additional changes.

I really don’t understand this.....even when considering the big bucks involved. When the word “Rose” is finally removed from the “Rose Bowl” it will be a sad day.

...two big changes that we learned Thursday morning from the President of Gator Bowl Sports. The game will now be known as the TaxSlayer Bowl and played on Jan. 2nd.

So now, will they have to re-incorporate for six years as TaxSlayer-dot-com Bowl Sports? If so, wouldn't that invalidate the agreement and have to be re-negotiated? What cheap whores such people are.

70 years from now, will anyone even kow what TaxSlayer.com was?

Hell, this is the first time I’ve even ever HEARD of TaxSlayer.com and I think these fools are rather pretentious in renaming the Gator Bowl.

Cowboys Stadium became AT&T Stadium last year. Corporate branding rules.

It would be funny if this web site lost a lot of business over this.

""TaxSlayer.com recognizes the history of the Bowl's rich 70 year tradition..."

...but we don't care so we're changing the name of the traditional bowl game.

What am I missing? Are they redefining "tradition"? Doesn't the name of the bowl game have everything to do with the tradition? Sheesh, wait until the Rose Bowl is changed to the LGBT Bowl... you know, because they recognize the rich tradition of the Rose Bowl.

Re: Dropping "gator" from the name is part of a six-year agreement reached between TaxSlayer.com and the Gator Bowl.

Does that mean I now have to go by... 'TaxSlayer' McKlusky?

If so, I'm going to do a death roll on somebody like I did on Bama... in High Definition!

I had to open this thread and read it.

I couldn’t figure out which group of easily-offended people were being offended by the term “gator”, or if “gator” was a slang term of some sort that offended someone.

It turns out to be non-political.

OTOH - who is going to look at their TV Guide or sports section and block out time from their day to watch the “TaxSlayer.com Bowl”?

So it was too difficult to just make it the Taxslayer.com Gator Bowl?

I’m so sick of corporations destroying traditions. Look at the Peach Bowl too.

If they are going to have a “Gator” Bowl, it should be played in Gainesville, which they actually did once, while the stadium in Jacksonville was being renovated.

It was sacrilege that they actually painted the Tennessee Checkerboard in the end zone of The Swamp.
