Considering what Carrie looks like now, being an independent can take it’s toll.

Thex makes it topside and... we never see what it's like out there, only that it's daytime and *something* flies past the camera.

Perhaps, but the storyline is very old; at least as old as Plato's allegory of the cave.

It is a good article. About the only people I hear bragging about their financial security are those who finally received their blessing for SSI disability income. They are professional deadbeats; permanent subhuman wastes of what was once human potential.

Working people are mostly all waiting for the hammer to drop, after which they/we will look for another hammer to wait beneath.

Your happiness in life is what you make of it. It’s your life to live, for good or bad.

Or, a line I like from The Who:

“If you let them do it to you, you got yourself to blame.”

“The great mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation”.

Was this Thoreau? Emerson? Dr. Kaputnik???

A soul-less congressman was on C-Span this morning.

When asked about Illegal Immigraton his answer centered around (paraphrase) " I'm told all the time, business's don't have enough workers in this country..."

When asked about extending unemployment benefits his answer was (paraphrase) "Unfortunately we don't have enough jobs in this country at this time ..."

My boss (the sole owner) is an 0mbomabot. His son worked here for a while but then quit working here because they couldn’t get along. People get fired every so often on his whim. He makes arbitrary rules based on his emotions at the time. Everyone is afraid to speak their mind because they might get fired. He is always chewing a new stick of gum for a few minutes and then spits it out and starts a new stick. People are the same way here. He loves the new people but after the flavor is gone you’re dirt to him.

I work for myself. If I want something I just go find the income to pay for it. Took most of last year off because I wanted to. Only thing about working for yourself that most people don’t get is you plan way in advance for what you need . Most of my income was earned 6 or more months ago. Most people can’t plan more than their next week in advance. I am working 5 or more years in advance.

I said I’m done 2 months before they kicked Aubrey out. Crazy company to work for. I was there 6 years. The last 6 of a 33 year oil and gas career.

I remember, back in the day when a major computer company had an ‘Open Door Policy’. An employee could escalate their grievance to top levels of management. Wonder if they still have that policy.

Most companies still claim to have such a policy. I've never seen an employee foolish enough to try it out, though.
