Friends it's Sunday night again, and time to relax. Warm up the tubes for another four hours of classic radio Americana.
*tonight's show will be available at the "Info" link starting tomorrow.
Nasty stuff.
Bless my ignorance, but this is my first time on Free Republic. What is a ping?
I’ve been listening to the Big Broadcast for years live on WAMU. I live in northern Virginia.
BTW, this week on 20th C there was a GS that was really, REALLY sad. I fell asleep towards the end. Dillon faced off on a gunman and was shot. Chester was talking about him losing his arm with the Doc. It was deep.
BSF53, a “ping” is a notification that you have a message, which is different than a “FReepmail,” the e-mail system. It’s the thing that gives you a red-type message at the top of the main Free Republic page: “New Posts to You.” A ping is just what each of these replies is to you. A ping from Vision’s Big Broadcast thread each week will notify you when he has posted the BB thread for Sunday afternoon.
You and Vision are possibly the only two Big Broadcast thread members who actually listen to it on the radio. :-)
Oh, I’ll bet that was an intense episode! Gunsmoke has some GREAT, gut-wrenching writing.
What is it about Fibber McGee & Molly that you like? If I remember correctly you like it, unlike me.
No, Vision, we don’t really like Fibber McGee and Molly. We’re not wild about the comedies, although all of them have clever, funny writing. Our Miss Brooks is okay. I guess we’re just cynical, because we like the detective shows, the “scary” shows and such...
...except Jack Benny?
Jack Benny is okay, Vision. I know you love him. As I said, all the comedies are cleverly written. We’re just not all that jazzed by them. I really hate the “little girl” voice on—I think it’s Jack Benny. “Hey, little girl, I’m busy.” “Yeah, mister, I betcha I know what... blah blah blah.”
Huh. I’m not sure what girl voice you’re referring to. It sounds like the girl from Fibber tonight.
Ok, well keep an open mind. A good Phil Harris show is really funny.
No, it’s not Jack Benny. Keith just corrected me. The silly, little girl voice is from Fibber McGee. That makes sense!
I do like Jack Benny, Phil Harris and all the rest okay. I just like the “meatier” stuff more.
Burnt ends recipe looks good.
Please add me to your ping list!
It’s pretty good Keith. I followed the recpie and waited until the big hunks in the middle were 200. Next time I’ll probably start checking for probe tender around 185 and see where the cook ends.
I’m looking forward to E.G. Robinson to finish off the evening.
“You dirty rats!” :)
Yea, EGR is the best. But not only him, a whole cast...Edward G. Robinson, Mary Astor, Humphrey Bogart, Cecil B. DeMille..
Gina, I’m heading to the radio and may check in later. Talk with you later...Lux time!
