Disabled Boy Records Bullies Tormenting Him, Police Charge Him With Illegal Wiretapping

After a disabled special education child tried to record how bullies were tormenting him at school, the police in Pennslyvania responded by slapping him with the charge of felony wiretapping.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, some parents are angry over one school’s anti-bullying policy, claiming it specifically endorses a homosexual agenda. But when one bus driver was caught on video bullying a crying child the resulting outcry had everyone angry.

Back in 2012, the Huffington Post documented the new trend of parents having their disabled children wiretapped based upon abuse from teachers and bullying students alike. Although some organizations like the National Autism Association “strongly suggest” using recording devices if they suspect a problem, others like the National Association of Special Education Teachers say that secret recordings are a bad idea based upon legal issues and privacy rights of other children. In the worst case scenario the children being bullied might themselves get in trouble under the law. Unfortunately, this is apparently exactly what happened........

The school staff was clearly unable to deal with bullies in this instance.

In the country where I immigrated from, the teachers and the school principal have the authority to paddle bullies. I believe a few hard swipes with paddle-to-bullies ass would put an end to this nonsense.

My father in law said that he was paddled in school, but my wife said the when she was in school there was no paddling ever. Somewhere along the way, it seems that the balance of power has shifted away from the teachers to the students in the US.

Wiretapping law only applies if there is a “reasonable expectation of privacy.” There’s a lot of wiggle room.

Sound about right. This is what you do until a kid comes to school with a knife or gun and starts in, then you throw up your hands and wonder why somebody didn’t do something before it got to that point.

I almost got in trouble for this.

I had a friend, with a business, call a former employer of mine and ask about employment history. The former employer made numerous false and inaccurate statements. We did not record the call. I asked about any recourse and was warned that I could face criminal prosecution and was fortunate I had not recorded the conversation or I almost certainly would have been charged.

The fact that the employer was in violation did not seem to matter, they were soley focused on me.

Now how an animla rights group or environmental group can film a business’ actions and be immune is beyond me.

Depends on state law. I know in my state recording requires both parties to be agreed to have the recording take place. Of course law enforcement have an exemption.

There are very few options for parents.

How could anyone expect privacy in a classroom, when school is in session?

Filing a complaint with the Dept of Education is an option.
