JACKSON, MI – As Diana Banks-Joiner stood in a courtroom and spoke of the abuse her nephew Marcel Hill endured at the hands of Camia Gamet, a woman he loved, his killer interrupted.

“Is that it?” Gamet said from her seat at the defense table.

The statement prompted gasps from the audience and an angry response from Jackson County Circuit Judge John McBain, who threatened to duct tape Gamet’s mouth closed.

Just for discussion purposes.

This Camia Gamet is one seriously evil woman than the judge went off on her. I just hope some idiot attorney doesn't use it to get an appeal to let this animal back out on the street.

Apparently the boyfriend (Marcel Hill) refused to fight back against her and she used it to full effect.

Video of the judge's outburst on the site.

Well, it won’t be reversible error. It would be malpractice not to bring it up on appeal, so of course it will be there. But there was no jury it affected (sentencing phase) and the sentence is in line with similar cases. So while it will be appealed, the absolute worst that would happen is it would come back for re-sentencing and the Defendant will get the same sentence. In short, this is pretty meaningless from a legal point of view.

I remember when this case first came up. She was his legal caregiver (collecting money for living with him). Police had been called multiple times for her beating on him. His neighbors and family all said he refused to fight back against her.

She literally crushed his skull.

It’s hard to find much information about this. However, going through numerous low-fact articles, I find that Marcel Hill was mentally handicapped, a drug and alcohol abuser, and a repeat sex-offender. Camia Gamet “met him walking down the street” and seems to have latched onto him as an easy victim and meal ticket.

It looks like a number of people, including police and social services, tried to get him help, but he wouldn’t be helped.

Very sad, hard to think what anyone might have done to prevent it, except to have them both in jail for their previous criminal convictions.

We have a lot of people in this county who are walking disasters and they always seem to find each other with disastrous results.

Not always, but often enough to make it clear that it’s a cruddy old world out there. His family was trying to get him out of the situation, police and social services involved, but he simply refused to cooperate.

Yeah its hard to do with an adult.

I know of two other local cases over the last couple of years where brutal murders had been committed by people who were mentally ill but couldn’t be helped. In the more recent case a 19 year old kid had murdered his mother just a few days after they had been to court trying to get him involuntarily hospitalized.
