David Moyes has been sacked as Manchester United manager, less than a year after taking charge of the 20-times English football champions.

Moyes replaced United legend Sir Alex Ferguson, who retired after 26 years in charge of one of the world's most popular clubs.

United failed to get going this season under Moyes and languish in seventh place, meaning it will miss out on Champions League football next season.

The club confirmed the sacking on Twitter after Moyes held a face-to-face meeting at United's Carrington training ground with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

Club legend Ryan Giggs will take over as interim coach until the end of the season.
'Ryan took Natasha despite him having everything and me nothing': Rhodri Giggs speaks out about 'jealous' Ryan and his wife
He had the money, the fame and the fast cars, but his brother believes that even with all that, Ryan Giggs was still a jealous man and that's why he stole his wife.

Rhodri Giggs has spoken out about how the one thing he had in his life that Ryan didn't, was what ultimately drove the Manchester United ace to have an eight-year affair with his now estranged wife Natasha Giggs.

Rhodri, 34, was left devastated after hearing of the betrayal his older brother committed, taking sibling rivalry to a whole other level.

David Moyes: Ferguson's chosen one has missed every realistic target at Man Utd
In Frank O'Farrell's day, he started getting suspicious when he turned up for Bobby Charlton's testimonial dinner and discovered that he was not even seated on the top table for a function he had organised himself. It was the next day O'Farrell was summoned to Manchester United's boardroom to be sacked and "A Nice Day for an Execution", the relevant chapter of his autobiography, remembers how Matt Busby avoided eye contact as the chairman, Louis Edwards, broke the news. "It wasn't so much I got the sack but the way they behaved as people," O'Farrell wrote. "I can never forgive them for that – they were nasty beggars."

Paper Round: Van Gaal expects imminent United meeting
Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal is "ready" to succeed David Moyes at Old Trafford, reports the Daily Mirror, among other outlets. The paper claims that the Dutchman is currently at his villa in Portugal’s Algarve and expecting a meeting there with a United delegation to discuss the prospect of taking over from Moyes. Van Gaal has been linked to the Tottenham job, but is holding out for the Old Trafford post.

Why Louis van Gaal Would Be Wise to Go to Tottenham over Manchester United
...the unhappy end to his time in Munich should make him think twice about taking on a club job of such scale again.

A stuttering Bundesliga campaign in 2010-11 for the reigning champions saw him sacked earlier than his previously agreed summer leaving date. As Raphael Honigstein of Sports Illustrated described it at the time, Van Gaal was a casualty of a "culture of enormous pressure."

Not surprised at all. Manchester United played poorly compared to the Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Everton. ManU’s aging roster needs a lot of younger players as replacements.

David Moyes left 'furious and disgusted' in the wake of Manchester United dismissal

DAVID MOYES was last night “furious and disgusted” about the manner of his sacking by Manchester United.

The Scot was left in the dark about his imminent departure on Monday despite the news breaking on Twitter.

Moyes, in charge at Old Trafford for only 348 days, is angry with chief executive Ed Woodward and other club officials who did not keep him informed of his fate.
