GREENSBURG (KDKA) — Greensburg City police are expected to file charges as early as Tuesday against a woman from Youngwood who was leading two lives at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital.
She was not immediately identified by name.
She was not only a patient at the hospital, but she was allegedly selling heroin from her hospital room. Jennifer Miele, Excela’s Vice President of Marketing, said staffers in the ICU saw numerous visitors coming and going, spending only a moment or two with the patient before leaving.
“What the staff was noticing in our Intensive Care Unit, was that many visitors were coming and going, the foot traffic was extreme, but they weren’t staying. Instead of staying for 20 minutes, they were staying for two minutes,” Miele said.

This story makes no sense. Most ICU patients aren’t even conscious. And they get very heavy nursing attention. I don’t understand it.

What surprises me most is that a “steady stream” of visitors were “let into” ICU. Same hospital, CICU though, and had a heck of time getting our young adult children “in” to see their dad when he was there. (Limited number of visitors, limited time frame, no more than two at a time, etc).
As no name given, my guess, the staff feared some sort of future sensitivity training if they placed a limited upon numbers of “ahnts” siblings, half siblings, baby daddies etc that they permitted into the room.

You think the hospital would catch on more quickly but maybe they were worried about political correctness/profiling and all that.
When I was in CCICU at another hospital, my brother, as next of kin, had to designate a maximum of 5 authorized visitors. Not on the list? Not allowed to visit. Visitors also had to show photo ID. No photo ID — no admittance. And yes, visiting hours were limited — I believe one hour in the morning, one hour in the afternoon and an hour in the evening. Try to stay longer and a security guard would “escort” you out. In any event, no one could stay beyond 8:00 unless the patient’s condition was grave and death was imminent.
If there are people running in and out at all hours of the day and night, there must be someone letting them do it. I can't imagine any hospital in this day and age letting people come and go without some kind of security procedures in place Some heads may have to roll and maybe a few people should be jailed as accomplices.
It’s just that ICU is different than a regular hospital room. The patient has to be very seriously ill or injured to be there, and the rules and level of nursing care is different. If this were a regular hospital room, I’d find it more believable.
