Word For The Day, Wednesday, April 23, 2014-- ceteris paribus
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
ceteris paribus [say-te-rees pah-ri-booss, key-te-rees pah-ri-boos]
Latin. adverb
all other things being equal.
Origin: cēterus (the other) + paribus ( equal)
Literally meaning with other [things] being equal or other things being equal. Ceteris Paribus was characterized by Sir Alfred Marshall who was one of the most influential economists of his time and is known as one of the founders of economics.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
Racist.
I left the gate unlocked for the A/C guy and he still managed to set off the damn alarms, which freaked him out, made Husky girl bark the house down, the cats run to hide before I was able to get them shut off. He is crawling around under the place now...
Well that makes it hard to believe someone could get in there to arrange the stones on your step doesn’t it?
I gathered you are having weird happenings, but haven’t been following. Something was left on your step? That would creep me out.
Back to cooking for the squad training...sloppy joes and no-bake cookies are all ready to go. My knees held up pretty good today, now we shall see if I can hall it all upstairs when I get down there.
How did you get hooked back into that? Xsboy just texted that he’s going to get an offer from the NYC firm he interviewed with yesterday. I’m happy for him but he’s not wild about NYC and will take it unless something else comes along before graduation day (Mother’s Day).
How great that he has an offer-but I’m with him on NYC...
Yep-the shop and whole front of the property all the way to the path going to the house is fitted with motion alarms-the only way to get in without setting off any of them is to come up the slope in back from the river.
The only person who could do that without slipping, falling into the water and making enough noise to wake every dog, guinea and donkey for miles, or stepping into an armadillo dig would be someone who knows the way really well and has a good flashlight or a full moon-but I have no idea how many people like that there may be-this was a vacation/summer place.
You are too nice-trust me on that-can you give them a raincheck the next time?
Other things being equal, I prefer to hear things expressed in English.
