pusillanimous [pyoo-suh-lan’-uh-muhs] adjective
1. lacking courage or resolution; cowardly; faint-hearted; timid.
2. proceeding from or indicating a cowardly spirit.

Late 14th century, (implied in pusillanimity), from L.L. pusillanimis "having little courage" (used in Church L. totranslate Gk. oligopsychos "small-souled"), from L. pusillis "very weak, little" (dim. of pullus "young animal")+ animus "spirit, courage."

Before that only die hards paid much attention to them.

From the comments from the press office, they are attempting to distance themselves from the Pope’s predisposition to say stupid, unclear, untrue things. I remain skeptical as to this Pope being good for us. Too many such instances. The people are being led astray. Pope’s doing, or Satan, does not matter. It’s happening.
