It’s pretty clear that Sheldon is on the Autism spectrum / Asperger’s.

I never thought I'd say this but one unique thing about the show is that doesn't spend 50% of it's time glamorizing gays.

My favorite scene is when Penny gave Sheldon the Nimoy napkin. One of Parson’s best moments

if you don’t watch it, how would you know?

Simple. There are previews ad nauseum during the commercial breaks.

I LOVE BBT! Hubby and I just discovered it about six months ago, and luckily for us it’s on a couple hours just about every weeknight on various channels. Is there a BBT ping list on FR?

Since I’m not sure I’ve ever seen an episode of Buffy all the way through, I’ll have to defer to your expertise.

However, I would like to point out that it isn’t reasonable to expect Christians or conservative Christians to always be portrayed favorably, anymore than it is to expect any group to always be portrayed favorably. And there are certainly villainous Christians just as there are villains in all other groups.

What I object to is the very nearly constant denigration of Christians in programming, which is not the case for other religious groups. In fact, negative portrayal of Muslims has somehow become classified as racism.

So why isn’t constant negative portrayals of Christians racist?

I think the comic book store deserves a mention on the list; that’s definitely a running gag. I’d toss in “Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock” too, but I’m not sure it’s been used enough to count as “running” (it has inspired t-shirts, though... I saw someone wearing one a few days ago).

In one episode they address this. She has a love/hate relationship with her mother also. Thus the bond with Howard.

You’re referring to the car ride after their disastrous first date?

you can’t tell anything from that…..and even from watching the first few shows. Be self righteous if you want however…..

I think Gilecki works in that he is the foil for Parsons. Think the famous straight men like Abbot to Costello. I do agree Sheldon makes the show. And I could not see it with Gilecki as the “Sheldon” character.

I can’t believe nobody pointed this out before.

He’s pretty far out on the spectrum, too, though what they call “high-functioning.”

So his social interaction peculiarities are not necessarily a reflection of his inner self, but more a consequence of his inherent inability to “see” what others see.

There have been many clues throughout the show that he is at heart a sweetie: he loves his mother and Meemaw to death, despite having nothing whatsoever in common with the, and he’s always there to help Penny when she needs him, although generally in an annoying way.

The “not wanting to be touched” bit is of course classic autism.

She has even used clips of the show to show her students how not to behave in social situations.

When Sheldon blurts or makes what looks like an intentional insult, I say to my wife, "Why the heck do people let him get away with that?"

She simply says, "It's in the script dear. And if they admonished or reprimanded him, that wouldn't be funny. It is a situation COMEDY after all."

Point taken but...sheesh!

He and Penny are the foils, but they are the two weakest actors IMO - but since Sheldon is so strong, they “work” by default I guess.

Raj has great expressions, and Wolowicz has impeccable timing and is a talented mimick and pretty good physical comedian. And Amy FF is awesome too. It works, but there are those that make it work and those that tag along. They’re all getting rich off it, that’s for sure….

Are we ever going to learn Penny’s last name? Howard does great impressions of famous people, we’ve seen more of that this season. Hope they keep the show fresh and the characters grow. Imagine Sheldon as a Dad.

I saw an interview with one of the producers once. Can’t remember his name. But he said they’ve gotten superstitious about Penny’s last name. They might reveal it in the very last episode, but not before.

Imagine Sheldon as a Dad.

Changing a diaper? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHA!!! They likely could get 3-4 shows worth of material out of that.
