If I had 2 Billion dollars & was an NBA owner..... (vanity)

....and they were trying to take my team away I would hire 29 teams of private dicks and investigate each of my fellow 29 owners to see if they have any skeletons in their past. Then I would have my team of lawyers depose them and their close associates.

I would start with the NBA commissioner, then Magic Johnson and then my fellow 29 owners.

I have a feeling that the pre-trial discovery process would reveal quite a bit.

And, consider how many professional athletes, including NBA stars, have been in trouble with the law in one way or another. Yet none of these players ever seem to face any sanctions. Yet we see an owner who says outrageous things privately, and gets banned.

How many NBA players use the N word for example? If we’re going to go there, I suspect that not only some owners, but most players, would have to be banned.

The NBA commissioner has set a strong precedent here, that anyone who says anything, even privately, which is judged to be hate speech, will be banned for life from the NBA. I wonder if this new standard will be applied across the board.

I’ve heard that Sterling is difficult to deal with and get along with. And that he’s a hard nosed guy who is used to getting his own way. I’ve heard that he does not want to sell the team, in spite of his suspension.

I’ve also heard that the team is actually owned by the Sterling Trust, which in turn is controlled by him, his estranged wife, and children. A legal process to force a sale of the team will have to involve these other people in the trust, not just Sterling.

I think the lawyers are going to have a lot to deal with, if Sterling resists a forced sale.

Magic Johnson is Teflon.

He's black and is HIV+.

Because of his HIV, libs and gays will rally BEHIND...him. The fact that he has gone so long with HIV, without it going to full blown AIDS, gives hope to others to continue in there lifestyles without consequence.

Can you name an easy-going billionaire that doesn’t often get his own way?

Remeber "the only way he could lose the election were if he were found in bed with a live boy or a dead girl?"

Ever since Ted Kennedy, that hasn't been true for lefties.

the NBA has set a strong precedent here...

Yesterday I was speculating, wondering if these billionaires who buy NBA teams as their expensive toys will want to stay around. I wonder if new billionaires from corporate success will want to take the risk.

These guys didn't get their billions by being dumb. Why risk the negative publicity if someone wants to stage a coup for their team?

I'd speculate that awhile down the road, probably at least a decade, the NBA won't be much of a major sport. Already, people prefer "March Madness" to NBA playoffs as a sport to follow.

If I had $2 billion, I sure would NOT own an NBA team.

The P/Is could mine all the social media for comments by NBA players and their friends, associates, and fans. They could start conducting criminal background investigations and Sterling’s layers could ask why these people are also not getting lifetime bans. Sterling could make this so painful that his little girlfriend and those who are eager to buy the team will regret that this ever came up.

I would burn the team to the ground for spite and retire to my own island.

The NFL decided to back off punishing players for using the “N” word. And why was that? Maybe because the majority of players who would be punished for using the “N” just might be black? Who knew? One would suspect that the NBA won’t punish players who use the “N” word for the same reason.

Ever since the NBA announced this debacle I have been wondering what would happen if all non-blacks were to ‘boycott’ all NBA games. Would not the NBA fold in a heartbeat? I do believe that the NBA is now on thin ice and chopping holes into which they are sure that they will fall.

I’ve heard that a number of NBA teams are in financial trouble. It’s mostly due to the high salaries paid to these players nowadays.

I don’t know how many white fans vs. black fans vs. other ethnicity fans go to NBA games. But I suspect that if white fans decided to boycott NBA games in big numbers, cancel season tickets, etc. that it could be enough to tip the balance into bankruptcy for some NBA teams.

I suspect it is about a girlfriend’s revenge, and people who are backing her hoping to buy an NBA team cheap. IOW - MONEY!

If white fans boycotted the NBA, it would have to merge with the WNBA.

I wish the media would dig into the background of this alleged girlfriend.

1. where did she come from?
2. why did she legally change her name?
3. who is paying her bills?
4. what does she do for a living?
5. what is her relationship to Sterling?
6. What is her relationship to Magic Johnson?
7. Why was she making tapes in the first place?
8. If, as she says, she didn’t leak the tapes to TMZ, who else knew about the tapes?
9. Were these tapes made legally, or did she violate laws regarding taping private conversations?

This is just off the top of my head, questions which I have, which the media are not delving into. They dug more into Joe the Plumber after his encounter with Obama than they have gone after this girl.

I get your point. Billionaires tend to be hard nosed businessmen, who got to be billionaires due to being hard nosed in the business world.
