Wild Bill Donavan and the OSS was a precursor to the CIA.
He had know leftist working form him under the pretence it was necessary for them to survive in some foreign environments.
It may have been necessary, but long term there were costs from it.
Donavan himself was not directly subversive.

Classmate of FDR at Columbia Law School. Protege of Harlan Stone, along with J. Edgar Hoover. As he got more involved with Rockefeller/Rotschild interests, he married the heiress Ruth Rumsey. He was appointed in 1915 by the Rockefeller foundation to its “war relief commission”. Went on to remain a loyal minion of financial elites throughout his career.
