In the olden days, they used to do traffic stops on some of the secondary arteries in Houston in the mornings. All they wanted to see was your driver’s license, proof of insurance and a quick glance at your stickers to make sure your plate was current and that you had a current safety inspection.
If the stickers were okay but the driver had no current license or valid insurance but someone else in the car did, the new driver took over and the previous driver received a very expensive ticket. If stickers weren’t current, they towed the car and issued a ticket.
They quit doing this several years ago and I would guess, particularly with the influx of illegals, that there are just lots and lots of people driving in Houston without a valid license and with no insurance. Just one of the reasons our auto insurance keeps escalating for those of us who do maintain coverage.
You don’t dare driving in my area without insurance. I’ve seen several young drivers who had no clue what they needed to show as proof of insurance. I have a lot of contact with the LEO here as part of my park ranger job. The tell me horror stories about the kids and their driving habits. Most often, it is texting and driving.
