Last fall I was to attend an Honors Flight with a then 94 year old WWII vet. He wasn’t feeling well and since he worked with the JCS in DC he has ‘seen it all anyway’. He was interviewed by CBS a few weeks ago for a story they may run during the D Day Anniversary. After the war my friend was in charge of the construction of the Normandy Cemetery, and he was responsible for moving our fallen soldiers from temporary graves to Normandy. At the time he wasn’t thrilled with his assignment, but now he considers it one of the highlights of his career. He retired as a Lieutenant General. Not many of our WWII vets are still with us and unfortunately, many are not of good enough health to participate in the Honors Flight. Bless them all.
