A 68-year-old grandfather who was severely beaten on an East Village street Friday night died from his injuries the following day and police are looking for the suspect.
Ruan Wen Hui had just dropped off his granddaughter and was walking on East Sixth Street between avenues C and D when a suspect came up from behind, yelled at him and started attacking, officials said.
Surveillance video from the scene shows the suspect tossing the man against a wall, then stomping and punching him. After the attack, the assailant is seen walking away.
Hui was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. He died Saturday, police say.
Hui, a Chinese immigrant, worked in a garment factory for the last 15 years, his daughter said. She described him as a man who always tried to help others and said she didn't know why anyone would want to attack him.
"Everybody loves him," she said. "Nobody can accept that he is gone."
A woman who lives on the block saw Hui lying in the street after he was assaulted.
"He was laying there, and he was bleeding, and the cops were here, and it was obvious that he was hurt pretty badly," the witness said.

Maybe tighter gun control laws are required.
There was another article posted which described the attacker as black, but since its offensive to describe attackers by their ethnicity - unless they are white - it was apparently scrubbed from subsequent reports.
I understand daughter’s grief. But there is no sense to be made out of this. She’s right, there is no reason why anyone would attack him. We have a critical mass of feral young men out there, who attack for no good reason.
Might help if they actually gave a DESCRIPTION of the perp.

That’s a bad neighborhood there, feral factories - housing projects with free money for breeding cows. A few years ago a couple of cops were sitting in a van around there and one of the ferals came up and shot them for no reason.
