Didn’t know this about him. Makes sense he’d star in LOTR though, since Tolkein’s story has Christian undertones.
More than just undertones. Tolkien was an ardent, deeply convinced Catholic and said that the books were explicitly Catholic in theme and typology. Unconsciously to begin with, he said, but deliberately as he went on.
