How to turn off automatic updates.
9/19/10 1:25 AM
Since I have updated firefox I now get automatic updates, as I have a poor/slow connection and because I simply do NOT want updates automatically installed I want to find out how to turn off this annoying"feature". Chosen solution
1.At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP) and then click Options. 2.Click the Advanced panel. 3.Click the Update tab. The auto-update options are displayed. Read this answer in context 18
Tech list ping
I have 24.5 and it still shows FF. There was a fix listed here awhile back, but I wasn’t smart enough to do it.
Pale Moon looks like FF, but, from what I understand, they’re not all about completely changing the UI like FF does from time to time. I switched my work computer just the other day and used the migration tool to bring all my bookmarks, login info, extensions, etc into Pale Moon. It works like FF used to work; clean and fast.
The Heterophobic nancyboys over at HoMozilla can go suck a lemon.
I agree. Just like leftist always do, they’re forcing us to change the way we do stuff: fundamentally changing stuff that we liked into something worse.
I’m still using FF on my Macbook because I can’t find anything better. I can’t figure out how to customize Opera to show tabs below the address bar. If I have to search every time I want to customize something, I’m not interested. The reason I’m leaving FF is because they’re trying to do my thinking for me. Mac does that but their stuff typically works the way I’d design it.
Firefox UI revamp sparks complaints, searches for alternatives
Also, I’ve been using FF since 2003, liked it, and wouldn’t want to change the way I do stuff. If I could make Opera work just like FF, I’d use it. Pale Moon does just that, but isn’t available for Mac :(
You can hack the UserAgent strings in about:config, but using an extension is easier for non-techs.
There are various User agent add-ons for Firefox that will also work in Pale Moon. They allow you to choose a browser identity from a list and masquerade as that while you surf the web. Some even allow you to customize different browser identifies for different sites.
Just go to the Extensions section in Pale Moon and search for "User Agent". I recomment User Agent Switcher 0.7.3
I personally do not like the fact that when I check emails, that bloody side panel always pops out. Annoying as it is, I simply immediately close it and continue on. I also had to customize the layout of the built-in mail reader, but that is not too difficult.
Have you tried the Opera - Settings function? I think it allows you to change the placement of panels and toolbars if I am not mistaken.
I guess I didn’t feel the impetus to do all that. Maybe I will at some point in the future.
How do I get the same bookmarks, etc. if I switch to Palemoon?
I missed it the first time I installed it at home, but they ask if you want to use the “migration tool”, or something like that. Say yes and it will start. It just does it automatically. All you addons, bookmarks, interface customization, login info, everything.
When you install Pale Moon, it gives you an option to transfer everything over from Firefox. Bookmarks, favorites, active tabs, add-ons (when compatible, most should be), and so on. The only difficult thing is getting used to clicking the blue ball instead of the fox.
I did not see this when I installed pale moon. I only saw option to install from chrome and IE. Maybe I did not pay enough attention. Thanks
Go to http://www.oldapps.com for any older software you like over the newest version.
I was unaware of palemoon. I am installing right now. Thanks !!!
Ok...thanks... I am going to try this thing. ;-)
