Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm? Good question, although it does look like the kid was really attacked.

Found an article that said the owner of the dog said "The dog didn't like children or bikes".

The dog will be put down.

The dog escaped through an open gate.

I like when they say "escaped"....as if the dog had opened the gate instead of some irresponsible adult not closing it.

Yes, you run in there and KILL the dog with your bare hands, if you have to, and SAVE your child.

I see the mother running to her child first, then standing up to confront/attack the dog, and the cat was also heading for another confrontation with the dog.

That is what I see.

Too many dog people let their dogs get away with things that, if their kids did it, they’d turn them in to the police. I don’t know, I just get annoyed with a lot of dog owners. They allow a smelly animal that licks its butt, eats its poop, and bites people run their lives.

Well, depending on the type of gate, it could certainly be possible for a dog to hit the latch just right to get out, but any owner with a dog like that who doesn’t make absolutely sure that the dog can’t trip the latch is definitely being negligent.

Good ... and necessary.

I am in no way condoning the dog's behavior. If it was my dog and it bit someone it would already be down. That said I have a nagging question. Did or has the toddler taunted or molested this dog through a fence or in some other way?

According to one article I read, the cat is a stray that followed them home a few years ago. They weren’t really looking for a cat but didn’t have the heart to run it off and just sort of slowly adopted it.

I didn’t think it was possible for me to love cats more than I do (I love most dogs, too) but this has heightened my respect for them immensely, and has dispelled a lot of unfounded myth about cats being completely detached from their owners.

Mrs. Mad has been mildly annoyed with (for decades) the fact that I insisted that she always have a weapon on her person at home or away. This video washed away all that “annoyed”. That dog would of been DRT if it had attacked one of my kids with her around.

She really is a beautiful cat - although scrappy!

I didn’t see yesterdays comments so I may be a day late and a Bitcoin short, but the cat was attacking the dog, period! A cat is not a dog. They do what they do and don’t care about you. To suggest that the cat was “protecting or defending” the child is preposterous.

I know it’s a great video and pulls at the heart strings of those watching it, (especially “cat people”), but reality is that the cat (cats) hate dogs (and BEARS), especially in their own yard.

My wife knows I’m right, but she “WANTS” to believe the cat acted to save the boy. So do many of you, go ahead, enjoy your fantasy.
