When I was growing up there was a place here called "The Armadillo Farm", and they raised them (think the Chinchilla Craze of the late 50's). They sold purses, lampshades, sewing baskets, magazine holders..All made out of armadillos. I still have a sewing basket that was once a living breathing armadillo..
