Outside of the decrease in cost and increase in service, no one noticed!

Kind of a catchy slogan, and perfectly apt for the Obama administration.
Of course, in order to begin this conversion, the USPS will have to radically raise postage rates.
Many of us here have to do that.
I probably waste an hour and a half per month shredding junk mail that comes to my door. I don’t want it, I didn’t ask for it, but it represents enough of a threat to my privacy that I actually have to sit there and run it thru a shredder before throwing it away.
Waste of resources all around.

I get mail—I live in an apartment building——lots of people get mail.
I also have that silly,old fashioned habit of sending thank you notes and sympathy cards.

Of course, the biggest problem is union rules and generous retirement benefits, as well as loads of employees on disability.
If I do need to mail something, I go to the post office to mail it....You cannot leave mail in your mailbox anymore, lest someone will take it.
In Norway, you can put a sticker on your box that says no advertising mail or unaddressed mail and they will honor it.
The key word in your reply was “honor”. Hard to use that term referring to any government agency here.
privatize the whole thing and some of this will happen but at least the decisions will be economically rational and not politically fixed
The vast bulk of stuff that arrives in my box in junk mail, flyers, GOP solicitations - all go in the trash. It's a revolving door of trash from curbside mailbox to curbside garbage pickup.
You can call the catalog senders and the political mailers and tell them to take you off their mailing lists. I have found that it really helps.

The Post Office is based on junk mail.
I pay most of my bills on line but will not switch to all electronic. I want the bill in the mail. We have crappy DSL service with rotaing brown outs. We get hacked & viruses where our system is down or the PC is physically at my IT guys house.
We have very good postal service here. More reliable than Microsoft.

Yes, the PO’s bread and butter comes from the junk mailers.
The husband is at the dump right now. Part of his haul for the paper recycling is, of course, the junk mail flyers that we get.
Something the environmentalists and the democrats, are silent on.
The largest source of trash for me is junk mail, and the bold inks and plastics are all a part of that paper trash, as is the energy pollution needed to deliver it and dispose of it, and most of it is in a closed loop of ''created, delivered, trashed'' without ever having been used by us.
we have had a mail slot for years and right next to it we have a decorative clip where we stick anything outgoing. We seldom use it but it works fine when we do.

People don’t have to pay electrically. They can drop off their bills to a delivery service once or twice a month.
We could also require the delivery services operating in an area to pick up mail twice a month or with a two day notice if called.
Just don’t need the post office to take care of luddites or those of us riding off into the sunset.
Give a three year notice and people will figure it out.
